University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Check out the Alma Mater of Luis. Campus is walkable and lovely. And while you're there, check out the famous marble bench that sits at the base of "Davie Poplar", a large tulip poplar tree in McCorkle Place .The bench has become worn and weathered during the century since its installation. The tree is believed to be more than 300 years old. Legend has it if you kiss your sweetheart on that bench, you'll get married. And yup, we DID ... almost two years ago :-)
Maple View Farm Ice Cream
No trip to Chapel Hill is complete without a cone of Maple View's finest ice cream. They are located just a few minutes drive from the temple and Chapel Hill Carriage House. Go catch a sunset there that you will remember the rest of your life!
Elmo's Diner
Where Luis worked during his college years! Great spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Mention Luis when you're seated and ... nothing will happen :-)
Top of the Hill Restaurant & Brewery
On the second time Chris and I met, we got to enjoy some refreshments here. This is one of Chapel Hill's most famous spots. It's a great place to catch the sunset from their rooftop!
New Hope Market
Chris and I have had lunch here several times while I was still working at New Hope Elementary, which is just down the road! Stop by for provisions or lunch and try a slice of homemade cake or pie!
The Honeysuckle Cafe & Bar
This beautiful, outdoor café will be perfect in the spring weather. Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee outdoors while you enjoy the afternoon breeze.
Duke Gardens
These gardens are lovely, and worth an afternoon or a few hours while you're in North Carolina.
Jordan Lake
A great spot for some hiking, a picnic lunch, or an afternoon on the water.
The Biltmore Estate
It's a drive from Durham/Chapel Hill. But if you have a few extra days to spare, this amazing home is worth the drive. We spent an autumn weekend at the Biltmore, and it's among our fondest memories!
