Flight
We recommend people fly into Rome (FCO) or Florence (FLR). But it really depends on how you want to spend your time in Italy.
Travel Note
The venue is located in the countryside, so it's best to travel by rental car, which will give you more freedom to explore the countryside during your stay. Rome or Florence are the easiest cities to fly into and the train system is the best connected if you prefer to not rent a car. You take the train to the main railway station and continue to Grosseto. It’s about one hour and thirty minutes (Freccia Bianca), From Grosseto it takes 1 hour to reach the venue via taxi or hired driver. Taxis can be difficult to find at short notice during high season and are often expensive. Booking a driver in advance is the best option. If several guests are traveling together, however, the cost becomes more reasonable, so we recommend planning your arrival and departure from the venue in advance if you chose to not rent a car.
Rental Car
Hertz, Enterprise or Avis are some pretty reliable companies that we regularly rent from. Roads in Italy can feel tight, especially in small country villages. A smaller car would be the best choice if you plan to explore some of these smaller towns. All of the rental cars have the option for an automatic transmission. They also all have Apple CarPlay or Andriod Audio which came in handy for navigating unfamiliar roads. *Google Maps is your best friend!* Rental prices range from about $25- $50 per day.
Travel Note
Google Maps -This was our best friend for anything navigation and never did us wrong. Anything from trains to one way roads through a countryside town, its usually operator error that gets us lost, not the app. You can also download offline maps in the app to ensure you never get lost. Saily -We've used this eSim app in a couple different countries. Its great if your cell provider doesn't go international and you still want to have your phone work normally. 5GB is about $13. Translate -Though we never ran into anyone who didn't speak English, it was nice to have Italian downloaded on our phones to translate restaurant menus. Rome to Rio - A great app that will help you get you from point A to point B anywhere in the world. The best app that will tell you what bus to take, what flight to take, and even what taxi service is the cheapest.
