For the true Cowtown experience, check out the Stockyards. There's even a twice daily cattle drive. Plenty of restaurants and honky tonks with two-stepping at night.

South Main area (on S Main St. between Vickery Blvd and Pennsylvania Ave) is a newer area with great restaurants and beer spots. Panther City BBQ is nearby and a Top 10 in Texas BBQ. We highly recommend Nickel City for an awesome dive bar and Southside Cellar (across the street from each other). If interested in doing a brewery hop - this is a perfect locations to start - can hit Rahr & Sons, HopFusion, The Collective Brewing Project, Funky Picnic and Pouring Glory.
