Chris and I first met while working for different companies in the same startup office building in downtown Toronto. The building hosted weekly "Scotch Fridays," where everyone could mingle and unwind. One Friday, we noticed each other from across the room but were both too shy to make a move. I told a coworker I thought Chris was cute, and he (not-so-subtly) introduced us. We quickly became friends, spending time together at the socials and often ending the night deep in conversation, just the two of us. Despite our connection, we were both too shy to take it further—until we unexpectedly matched on Tinder. (Chris gave me a super like!) That match confirmed what we had both been feeling all along, and Chris finally asked me out on a sushi date. The rest, as they say, is history.
Chris recruited my sister, Maya, to help pull off a perfectly planned surprise proposal. He told me he was flying to Texas for the birth of his nephew (who wasn’t due for a few weeks) and even had me drive him to the airport. In reality, my brother-in-law picked him up to finalize the proposal setup, and Chris stayed at a friend’s place that night. The next day, Maya invited me to a "photoshoot," saying my brother in law Kuldeep needed to build his photography portfolio. I got dressed up and met her at a beautiful park near her house, thinking nothing of it. As we walked to the "photoshoot," I was completely shocked to see Chris standing there, surrounded by a glowing "Marry Me" sign, candles, and rose petals. It was magical, emotional, and such a surprise! My best friend and a few others were there to celebrate, and we FaceTimed my parents, who were thrilled—my mom even cried. Later, we all went out for dinner to celebrate - it was the most perfect day!
