Amanda's Story: It was a just another August day when Chris and I were placed in "Adult Coloring" as our wellness activity for vet school orientation. Of course, I already knew who he was because he had come up on my suggested friends on Facebook. Being the shy, quiet person that I am, I was afraid to talk to him. Luckily, I had already added him on Facebook and he knew me as the girl who had also been to Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary in Namibia. We didn't talk much that day but later that night, things changed. It was "disorientation", a party to celebrate the start of classes. We talked all night to the point where my friends couldn't get me to leave. We made plans to hang out the next day at the pool which I was both nervous and excited for. After that, it just felt so natural. There was no doubt in my mind that this was something different. We have spent just about every day together since then. We celebrate our anniversary on August 7th, the day of disorientation because there is no doubt that that night was the start of forever. Since then, we have traveled to 5 countries, 3 continents, and more than 20 national parks together. He is my best friend, my favorite travel buddy, my head chef, my biggest supporter, and my soulmate. Ollie and I can't wait to spend forever with him! Chris' Story: We almost met for the first time in Namibia- a Southern African country for the geographically challenged. Same wildlife sanctuary but just a couple of months apart. While that would have been destiny, meeting during "Adult Coloring" in veterinary school orientation was close to it. I remember seeing a cute wavy brown haired girl coloring away silently a few seats away from me while I rambled on to a fellow classmate. From what I remember, she didn't seem too interested and I was pretty confident she thought I was annoying as I recounted cheetah stories aloud. Note: she later reassured me that she was just shy. Later that night at a vet school party, with the help of a little bit of liquid courage I approached her sitting by the pool table with her friends. She was wearing a light blue t-shirt, shorts, rocking some gray Converse and socks with hedgehogs on them. We ended up talking all night until the bar closed and had made plans to see each other the next day. Within a week of school, instead of sitting with her friends, she sat with me in the fourth row of seats on the left side of class where I had previously sat alone. I immediately knew that she was the light of my day and she quickly became my whole world. I became the dad to her rambunctious Australian Shepherd and despite him eating my bed, I loved him dearly. About 4 months into dating, I had a terrible roommate situation that basically left me homeless. Without hesitation, Amanda (and Ollie) took me in. Most people would call you 'insane' for moving in with your girlfriend after 4 months of dating, but with us it was different. Love took hold of both of us and drove us forward together without looking back.
