We met during our Fourth Year at the University of Virginia. Coincidentally, the location we met for the first time is the same location we met up when we first started dating: The Biltmore. It wasn't until after graduation that we started dating. Tracy was still living in Charlottesville and Chris was visiting for a mutual friend's wedding. We met up at the Biltmore for Survivor Hour, a weekly Thursday tradition from our college days, since Chris was in town for only a few days. From then on, every day, we were the first one each other talked to in the morning and the last at night (via text/call since we lived 2 hours apart).
We decided to make things "official" Homecoming weekend of 2017. For a year and a half, we alternated weekends to visit each other, driving back and forth between Charlottesville and McLean, VA. In April 2018 on one of these after-work Friday drives, Tracy "surprisingly" stopped by the SPCA to "just look" and ended up arriving at Chris's house with a new furry friend: our best friend Siri, who came along for every ride when it was Tracy's turn to visit. At the end of 2018, Tracy began looking for a job in the D.C. Metropolitan area and we started looking for apartments together. This past December, our long distance journey ended when Tracy accepted a job in McLean, VA (Chris likes to take credit for finding the job posting) and we were able to finally get an apartment together. Now we love cooking Home Chef and Hello Fresh meals together, taking Siri for walks and getting to come home from work to each other every day (and having extra time every weekend now that we don't have to drive!)
On April 6, 2019, Chris suggested taking a day trip into Washington D.C. to see the Cherry Blossoms and check out some bars and restaurants at the Wharf. Plan A for the proposal was to go to the Jefferson Monument (Jefferson founded the University of Virginia) but, since it was the Cherry Blossom Festival, the proposal would have had about 10,000 witnesses (a few too many). We walked all around the city to find the perfect proposal spot (a whopping 8.9 miles) and ended up by the Navy Yard. We sat down on a bench by a little tug boat and Tracy started immediately crying, knowing that something was up. Chris got down on one knee and Tracy obviously said yes! After, we went to celebrate with dinner at District Winery (which we were conveniently right outside of) with Chris's parents.
