Nugget Rib Cookoff
Often referred to as the Super Bowl of rib competitions on the national BBQ competition circuit, the annual Labor Day Weekend event spans more than 6 city blocks in the heart of downtown Sparks, Nevada. Two dozen of the country’s best BBQ teams competed for nearly $20,000 in prize money plus prestigious bragging rights! It is estimated that 350,000-400,000 BBQ enthusiasts take part of the festivities each year consuming more than 250,000 pounds of mouthwatering ribs during the 6-day festival.
Lake Tahoe
America’s Most Beautiful Drive, At 22 miles long and 12 miles wide, Lake Tahoe is North America’s largest alpine lake. The lake contains enough water to cover the entire state of California to a depth of 14 inches. The water is 99 percent pure, and a white dinner plate can be seen to a depth of 70 feet. Lake Tahoe’s altitude is 6,225 feet above sea level. At 22 miles long and 12 miles wide, Lake Tahoe is North America’s largest alpine lake with the California/ Nevada state line bisecting it. You can begin your travels at any point along the 72-mile (not including side trips) route around the lake.

Virginia City
At its peak, Virginia City was a thriving, vibrant metropolis of 25,000 residents. Located about 35 miles southeast of Reno, Nevada in the Virginia Range and in the shadow of Mount Davidson, its hills made millionaires. Silver and gold was buried deep beneath her streets and men and women traveled from around the world to live and work. Miners pulled millions of dollars from shafts and tunnels 3,000 feet beneath the thriving town. The spirit of those Comstock “originals” still inhabits the places where they once worked, lived, worshiped, educated and died. Today, visitors to Virginia City can walk with these past residents. Great Reno Balloon Race
While it's the weekend after the wedding, this is one of our favorite events! If you stick around for a week, it is a must see event! he Great Reno Balloon Race is the world’s largest free hot-air ballooning event. During three days in early September, you can look up into the Reno skies and see a rainbow of hot air balloons soaring about. From its humble beginnings in 1982 with just 20 balloons, The Great Reno Balloon Race has taken flight with up to 100 balloons each year
