In 2021, Chris was living in North Dakota (gross). He came to Arizona for a few weeks to call indoor football games and happened to be staying at the Springhill Suites—literally across the street from Leah’s mom’s house. Leah spotted him on Bumble, they matched, and started texting. All was going well until Chris casually mentioned he was flying back to North Dakota that same day. Classic timing. Neither of them was looking for a long-distance thing, but for some reason, the messages kept going. Texts turned into voice memos, which turned into phone calls, which turned into late-night FaceTimes—and eventually a 2am “should we actually meet?” call that ended with Chris booking a flight back to Phoenix. Both of them texted friends just in case this turned into a Dateline episode. Thankfully, it didn’t! They hit it off in person, decided to give this thing a real shot, and dated long-distance for a year before Chris got a job in Portland. Leah (plus her cat, Kitty) made the big move to join him. Since then, they’ve spent the holidays with each other’s families, watched way too much Dr. Phil and Shark Tank, and got the best dog ever—Charlie. Each of you is part of this story in some way, and they’re so grateful to have you along for the ride.
