How We Met

October 17, 2014

Pajielly: When I met Chretien that night, I didn't think anything of it. I was getting over a breakup and so was he. My college roommate convinced me to go with her on this double date. I had no idea who my date was, but I figured it didn't matter as long as he wasn't a serial killer. Chretien was very genuine and a gentleman. I expected nothing from this blind date. By the end of the night, I thanked him for getting the movie tickets and assumed it'd be the last time I'd see him. As the week went on, Chretien would text me little things like, "Wanna get Starbucks?" I'd purposely reply late or turn him down because I didn't want to lead him on. After a few late replies and no replies, Chretien got the message and stopped texting me. One night, I stayed out late studying at the student union. When I got back to my dorm, I opened the front door to Chretien sitting on the couch! There was no one else there but him. At this point, I didn't even know why or how he was there. All I could think about was how I so rudely never replied to his text messages. I said, "Hey," and went straight to my room. I tried to hide in my room for as long as possible. I waited and waited, but he was still there. Chretien and his roommate carpooled to campus that day. His roommate was with my roommate, so Chretien had to wait for his ride. I had reached a breaking point because I had not eaten dinner and was starving. With whatever courage I had left, I came out of hiding and headed to the kitchen. Out of consideration, I offered him some of my food.

continued...

I assumed he would say, "No, thanks," because that's what most people say. Instead he said, "Yeah! Sure!" I also only had one serving of my leftover lunch, and now I had to split it with him. My noodles were really spicy. Chretien was sweating and dying eating the noodles, but he kept eating because it tasted so good! I couldn't help but laugh at the situation. He wasn't even eating to save face, he truly liked the noodles and was hungry! We ended up talking all night and watching hours of dumb videos online. His roommate finally came, and they left. From that night on, we couldn't stop talking to one another. Chretien started studying with me in the student union. He was a terrible study partner because all he did was distract me with dumb videos. We continued to hang out. Chretien did not make moves on me because I had previously told him I was not interested in a relationship. A couple of months later, still NOTHING. I knew he liked me, and I knew he knew I liked him too. Well, the chase could only last so long. One morning (three months later), he told me he wanted to ask me a question. Then, he said, "Never mind. I'll ask you later." I could tell he was beating around the bush about something. I insisted he just ask me right then and there. He kept refusing and got a little shy. I knew he wanted to ask me to be his girlfriend, but I pretended to be clueless. After some convincing, he finally asked, "Will you be my girlfriend?" Now, here we are planning a wedding!
