Flight
PDX Airport, in Portland, is about 5.5 hours away from Joseph by car. Most of the attendees are Portland based, so we'll have plenty of cars going out that way and will try to plan for carpooling as much as possible. Especially if you're coming a long way, we suggest flying into Portland and spending a couple days there to get to know our beautiful city before the trip out east. There is potential to rent a small van or shuttle option as a less expensive alternative to renting a car, please reach out to Chloé or Jeff if this is something you'd like so we can help set that up. :)
Flight
Boise is about 4 hours to Joseph by car (1.5 hours closer than Portland), and so it's an option for someone who will be flying in, renting a car, and maybe doesn't have the time to come through Portland. Either way, you'll be taking the I-84, which should be easy and accessible during the summer months.
Flight
Seattle airport is about a 6 hour drive away from Joseph - almost equal distance from Portland. For those who are coming from Europe this is another potential option if you're having problems finding international flights to the PDX airport. We would again suggest taking a week to explore and have some fun family time!
Hotel
Our ceremony will be at the Wallowa Lake Lodge, a beautiful old historic hotel positioned at the head of Wallowa Lake. The hotel definitely has a log-cabin lodge vibe, and the rooms are quirky and cute. It's about a 15 minute drive (not walkable) between the lodge and the Jennings Hotel (in Joseph on the other side of the lake), where we'll be having our reception dinner, so best to plan for a designated driver if you're staying out here. There's no such thing as Lyft or Uber in Joseph.
Hotel
Kokanee Inn is a bed and breakfast situated in the heart of Joseph, and is a really great option for those looking to stay close to our reception venue. If you look forward to partying with us and don't want to have to worry about driving, this is our recommended option!
House Or Rental
This is a great option for anyone who wants to have a little adventure of their own. There are so many beautiful Airbnbs for anyone looking to stay in a group or have a more private situation nearby. We would suggest booking sooner than later as the summer months get reserved quickly. Anything near Wallowa Lake will surely have some stunning views. If Joseph Airbnbs are in short supply, you can also check nearby towns Enterprise or Lostine. Unfortunately, even though he works at Airbnb, Jeff doesn't get any friends or family discounts. :(
Hotel
The Jennings Hotel is close to our heart, which is why we've booked out the entire thing to accommodate as many of our guests as we can fit. We'll be using the Jennings as a sort of home base for the entire wedding, and those that aren't staying there will be able to come by and join us in the common room for some breakfast or have a quick session in the sauna if they'd like. Unfortunately, there are only 14 total rooms, which means that less than half of our guest list were able to fit. We've already reached out to folks who will be staying in the Jennings with us.
Travel Note
5.5 hours can feel a little bit daunting for a drive, but we hope we can put your mind at ease by describing what you'll be seeing along the way: Heading east from Portland, you'll spend the first half of your drive on the I-84 passing through the Columbia River Gorge, truly one of the most beautiful places in the Pacific Northwest. The mighty Columbia will be on your left, and the staggering cliffs and rolling hills created by the river will be towering on either side. After a few hours, you'll leave the river's path and make your way towards Pendleton, the famed rodeo town renowned for it's Woolen Mills, it's whiskey, and the Pendleton Round-Up. From there, you'll climb high into a mountain pass that will eventually drop you down into Le Grand, where you can refuel before the last hour of your drive to Joseph. That last hour will take you through the Snake River canyon, a ruggedly landscaped but beautifully paved stretch of winding road, until you finally emerge into the rolling farmlands and towering mountain vistas of Wallowa County. A couple more small towns, and you'll arrive at Joseph, where we'll be waiting to greet you! If anyone decides to come from Boise-- we unfortunately are much less familiar with the drive. It follows the same highway (the I-84) but from the opposite direction, and we know that there aren't any treacherous sections or unknowns that might make the drive challenging. It might just be a bit less scenic than the route from Portland!
