Generations old general store, pizza and beer spot, local radio station, hand made clothing, ceramics and artwork? M. Crow truly has it all. This has been our favorite spot to stop into on our way in or out of Joseph to play pinball, grab a pint, and buy some too-cool merchandise curated by the brilliant artist/mad scientist Tyler Hayes.
The infamous hike where Jeff popped the question to Chloe. A seriously beautiful, not-too-strenuous trail through beautiful forest, wide open fields, and along a creek that has carved out a little slot canyon about 3 miles in. You can do as much or as little of this hike as you want, but we recommend giving yourself at least an hour and a half from the trailhead if you want to get to the stunning waterfall views. Depending on your pace, it's around 3 hours total to the falls and back so plan accordingly. Whatever distance you choose to do, it's 100% worth it.
If you're looking for a bang-for-your buck view of the Wallowas, you can't really beat the Wallowa Lake Tram-- a cable car that will elevate you a couple thousand feet and drop you at a chalet serving food and beverages, plus a small hiking loop. Believe it or not, Chloe and Jeff have never done this. We've heard it's really cool, though.
A quaint antique shop with a wide selection of old dish ware, tools, books, records, you-name-it. Don't miss going into the insane shed area full of old tools, and fun vintage clothing through the doorway in the back. Chloé and Jeff have gotten lots of funky home goods from this spot :)
Pretty far away and not super accessible without a capable vehicle-- the Zumwalt prairie is for the adventurous ones on our guest list. However, it's one of the most pristine examples of the wild grasslands that once covered much of the west, and it does feel like stepping back in time to be there. Truly gorgeous, filled with wildlife, and far enough away from civilization that you can feel it. It is a 40 minute drive from Joseph so we recommend an early morning head start, or checking this spot out on Sunday after all the wedding shenanigans.
The tiny town of Imnaha, about an hour outside of Joseph, is worth the drive. It sits at the mouth of Hells Canyon, the deepest canyon in North America (deeper than the Grand Canyon at points!), and features a single post office and tavern that is always full of locals sitting along its old school bar. This is a place to go if you want to see some mind blowingly rugged scenery and get out of town for a bit-- but might be too far unless you're planning to stay in Joseph for a couple of days before or after the wedding.
