Our Story

When Chidi Okezie and Maya Moore first crossed paths at Hampton University in 2012, neither of them could have imagined how their story would unfold. Both were student athletes on the Hampton University track and field team, sharing practices, meets, and memories, but during college they were simply teammates, not friends. It wasn’t until after graduation that their connection truly began to grow. Maya started working at the YMCA in 2015, and a year later, Chidi joined the staff as well. Even then, they still weren’t close, and their conversations mostly revolved around swapping work shifts. Then came Homecoming of 2018, the weekend that changed everything. Surrounded by friends and the familiar Hampton spirit, sparks began to fly. Maya finally took notice of Chidi, and one thing led to another. What started as a casual friendship quickly blossomed into something deeper. On December 9, 2019, Chidi and Maya officially started dating. When the world slowed down during COVID, their bond only grew stronger. With more time together and fewer distractions, they realized their connection wasn’t just built on chemistry. It was grounded in faith, patience, and understanding. As Chidi continued to pursue his professional track and field career, Maya stood by his side, supporting him every step of the way. While he trained and competed on the world stage, Maya continued her career as a speech language pathologist in the school system, as well as a high school and youth track and field coach. Their love grew into a partnership rooted in respect and balance, and soon after, their greatest blessings arrived: Ava, born in 2022, and Ivy, born in 2025. From teammates to best friends, and from best friends to soulmates, Chidi and Maya’s story is one of perfect timing, unwavering support, and lasting love. What began on the track at Hampton University has become the race of a lifetime, and they are running it side by side, forever.
