It was summer of 2017. Jon had been living in Bethesda since January. Chelsea had just moved to DC in May. They both had relocated to begin their careers - his in technology project management, and hers in international education. They were two twenty-somethings getting their footing in a new city, just starting their careers, curious to meet new people. Enter Tinder. Chelsea liked that he took photos. Jon liked that she liked travel. Chelsea liked his smile. Jon liked her hair. They set up a date at the coffee shop at Washington National Cathedral in late June. They were both nervous. Chelsea was worried she wouldn't recognize him. Jon brought a book with conversation prompts. Chelsea thought that was sweet. They were both surprised at how easy it was - how comfortable from the start. They decided to see each other again the next week. On their third date, Jon took Chelsea to see a show at the Kennedy Center. Before the show, Chelsea and Jon were having a drink outside on the patio. A couple came up to them with an Instax camera and asked if Jon would take their photo. Afterwards, they asked Jon and Chelsea if they would like a photo as well. Chelsea remembers thinking, if Jon says 'yes', if we memorialize this date with a photo, this is for real. This is going somewhere. That little photo sits in a frame in our living room now. That date marked the start of 'we', of 'us', of our love and our partnership together. It was just the beginning. We've conquered every challenge we've faced from the start: we built Ikea furniture together and enjoyed the process; we moved out of two separate apartments and into our first in one day (*in a blizzard); we challenged each other to sunrise jogs on the National Mall; we grew closer through our commitment to a tricky rescue dog (we love you, Sammy); made job and career changes, and moved to a new city. Through every struggle and success, we've become more of a team, better partners, and more in love. We're excited to see what the future holds, and we can't wait to have you join us as we celebrate a new chapter in our journey together!
