In the summer of 2013, both Emily and Jacob were employed by the Jewish Association for Residential Care (JARC) in Boca Raton, Florida. Emily worked in the vocational day program while Jacob worked in a group home. Thus, their paths had never crossed even though they were working at the same organization. They ended up in the same CPR class one day, and both asked the head of HR who the other was. Jacob was told that Emily was off limits (not only because Emily had a boyfriend at the time but because Emily was only 19) and that going after Emily is the kind of thing that gets you fired (they were very protective over Emily at JARC)! Fast forward to May of 2015 and Emily was in her senior year at Elon University where she and her friends downloaded dating apps for fun and set their location as where they would be over the summer. Determined to go to New York City (for her MSW) single, Emily was reluctant to message the guy who said he worked with individuals with disabilities, but with some persistence from her friends, Emily messaged Jacob. After messaging a little, Jacob sent Emily a friend request on Facebook. When Emily saw this and read that Jacob worked at JARC her jaw dropped. It was the guy from CPR class! The world was working in funny ways, so they knew they had to go on a date. When they got to the restaurant, a JARC client was there with his family and that's when they really knew fate was on their side.
