A Sunday afternoon on a patio with a bourbon sounds pretty nice doesn't it? How about dinner with Anthony Bourdain (RIP)? Well Shane loves those two ideas so much he choose to put it on his Hinge profile. Thinking what the heck, the right girl is probably going to like those things too.... Sam swiping through the trove of frat bros with fish, ready to send Hinge to the trash folder where it belonged saw the profile of this bearded gentleman, said, "I enjoy some 4 roses. I love me some Tony. Let's see what's doing with this Shane fellow." The two exchanged a handful of messages and decided to meet for a cocktail at a bourbon bar, The Oak (Sam's favorite), sooner than later. After two hours of conversation and cocktails went by in a blur, they parted ways. Sam's dad was meeting her after and Shane was going to see his buddy Blake. The two would find out that they both shared with those people that the date went well, but was different, special. Shane skipped the How I Met Your Mother rule of waiting 3 days and texted Sam that night. Two days later they met again at the Oak for another two hour blur of a conversation and despite Sam bringing potty talk to the table (don't judge it worked) Shane left knowing this was it. Sam called her mom and said the same thing. They both no longer needed to look for anyone else. Things soon got more difficult when Sam realized she needed to go to treatment for her eating disorder. Shane said great I will be there for you every step of the way. He was, even when she could barely talk to him. He attended any visit possible, jumped into support groups, and spent the time bonding with Sam's parents. The two even aced couples therapy. Now that they've made it through more than some couples have in a lifetime, they have built a foundation for an incredible life together. They have a beautiful home, dogs they love, and better friends and family then they could possibly ask for. Sam and Shane can't wait for their forever future together!
