Hey there. I can take this one. Chase and I met through an online dating app in November 2014. Sounds romantic, right!? Okay, let me explain. I came across Chase’s Tinder profile on a Friday afternoon while cleaning my apartment. Her profile picture showed her holding a sign that said “Maid of Honor,” so I asked about her speech. Apparently the bar for opening lines had been set very low by all of the other guys in Los Angeles because I got a pretty quick response from Chase, and we exchanged a couple of messages that day. She was headed out on the town with her friends that night. I was... cleaning (hey, mom!)... but I took my shot and asked her if she wanted to go out for ice cream the next week. I honestly can’t remember why I picked ice cream or why I thought that was a good idea, but it worked! She said yes, and we set up a Wednesday night frozen yogurt date. I have been head over heels for Chase since the 6th minute after we sat down at Yogurtland. In the first 5 minutes, she gave me a hug, made me laugh, caught me off guard, questioned my flavor choices, accidentally spoke Japanese while trying to prove to me that she knew some Chinese, and was absolutely, unapologetically herself. I was hooked. We stayed at Yogurtland until they closed down and kicked us out, then we stood outside of a restaurant with outdoor heaters until the heaters went off. We talked about everything. We talked about nothing. I loved it all. I have been along for the ride since that night. We have gone on road trips up the coast and had Netflix marathons on the couch, eaten pizza on the beach and had pizza making competitions in the kitchen, traveled the world and moved across the country, and through all of it, Chase is always Chase. I simultaneously know what that means while having absolutely no clue what to expect. That is what has kept me coming back for more every day since the night at Yogurtland, and that is how I know she’s the one.
I only have 2000 characters, so here's as short as I can make it! Saturday morning around... some ungodly hour before the sun came up, Rich woke me up to tell me he had to go get something from his office. Completely believable. I went back to sleep and was promptly woken up around 7:30 am with a phone call. He had "forgotten" something and needed me to go downstairs to read it to him. I believe my exact words were "ughhhhlkahdfchblllahhhhh...." I'm so sweet in the mornings. I went downstairs to find three dozen beautiful red roses, with note "1" sitting on the counter... "Good morning beautiful, how does Earl's sound for breakfast? Put on your favorite outfit (I'm still shocked I didn't wear yoga pants) and I'll see you there. Get a coffee and wait for me" followed by the most romantic Jason Isbell lyrics you can imagine. I went to Earl's, and ordered my coffee. The barista smiled politely and asked for my name.. then handed me notes "2 & 3". I immediately lost control of all emotions and began sobbing. Alone. At Earl's. Notes 2 & 3 instructed me to drink my coffee, and then proceed to Blo salon for a blowout! It's 9:15a. I know you're probably wondering, "didn't you know what was happening at this point?" ... The answer is, yes... and no. Because after all, this could be the world's most romantic Saturday morning scavenger hunt just for fun, and I have been known to blow things up in my mind (what? you're surprised?). Love makes you do crazy things! 10 am - my hair was done, and looking fresh. Note 4 (hidden in my glove box) lead me to Davidson (not convenient to my location) - but hey, I'm just along for the ride. I arrived at a red phone booth, where note 5, along with the cutest hand-written map of campus, took me to "the wishing well". Despite my generally fantastic sense of direction, I went the wrong way. Don't worry, I found Rich standing under the wishing well, looking devilishly handsome, and seriously happy to see that I made it through the hunt...
(Who am I kidding, I can't give you the "short" version! There were way too many details and emotions I can't leave out!) As I approached the wishing well, I quickly realized what was happening (thank goodness it wasn't just a really romantic scavenger hunt with pancakes at the end) and I lost it. No recollection of the event that took place the following 2 minutes and 24 seconds.. That is, until I came to, with the most STUNNING pear shaped diamond on my trembling finger. And just like that, I got the best promotion to date. I got a FIANCE! It was perfectly executed - from the romantic love notes to the coffee shop to the incredible hardware (ahem, excuse me, engagement ring) he so lovingly and thoughtfully designed. I am in heaven! BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! The photographer (I know, I thought it couldn't get any better either...) captured a few photos, and before long I was being hurried off to a mysterious "lunch reservation" at a location unknown to me. The whole ride was full of laughing and story telling and whens and hows and whats and no ways.. When we pulled into the parking lot for lunch (margs and fajitas - he knows me so well) I was shocked. The other emotions took over (like that really ugly, not holding back, deep belly cry that only your best friend should see at 2 am after one too many margs) came out. We walked up the steps to "Taco Bout Engaged" balloons hanging on the wall.. and then.. Madison, Lauren, Lynsey, Mom, Dad, Judy, Dicky, Lena, Josh & a few of our closest friends were all screaming and loving on us. I. Was. Shocked. Couldn't catch my breath. How did they do that? How were they all able to pull of this GIGANTIC surprise without me knowing? I can't believe this is our story! To say it was the best weekend of my life is perhaps the biggest understatement of the 21st century. I'm so thrilled to be able to share this story with all of our loved ones, and continue the journey on the big day!
