This airport has the most affordable flights Once you arrive you can rent a car or reserve a shuttle ride to Vail. Shuttle Options include Epic Mountain Express and Peak 1 Express.
Flight
Eagle County airport is about 40 minutes West of Vail. Flights into Eagle are a bit more expensive, but you will save several hours in travel time. Once in Eagle, you can rent a car, hail a rideshare, or book a shuttle.
Travel Note
Unless you want to explore more of Colorado outside of just Vail, you may not want to rent a car. There is free shuttle service around the town of Vail and most hotels charge around $50/night to park.

Travel Note
Piney River Ranch is an incredible destination, and to get these amazing views, you have to travel up a Forest Service road. It is challenging mountain driving, with many switchbacks, washboard sections in the road, large rocks, bumps, and holes. If you are also going to enjoy a few cocktails, descending in the dark becomes even more dangerous. The shuttle drivers are pros, so maybe just let them do the driving.
