Charlotte is a Doukhobor! Doukhobors are a sect of Russian dissenters known for thier radical pacifism. For a little history this article sums it up pretty well: https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/doukhobors. We will be incorporating traditional Doukhobor elements into our wedding. As Elaine Podovinikoff describes: Doukhobor weddings are unique in that they are based on the couple receiving their blessings from the entire group of attending guests rather than from one individual. They believe that 'the voice of the people is the voice of God,' and that those people who know and love the bride and groom are filled with such powerful positive messages of good wishes and heartfelt love that they will strengthen the young couple's future direction and give them added spiritual sustenance to begin their life together. It is traditional for wedding guests to share blessings/poems during the ceremony. If you feel inspired to share something meaningful (and brief) during our ceremony please let us know!
If it is raining (it is Vancouver after all) the ceremony will be moved to the hall. We will send notifications to all our guests as soon as possible and leave a note at the original ceremony location. This will also be true in the case of very high temperatures.
