The Wedding Website of Charlie Childs and Jonathan Thickens
Madison is in the heart of southeast Wisconsin and is relatively easy to get to. There are many travel options ranging in price and distance from downtown Madison, including the Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago airports. Downtown is situated on an isthmus between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona making most of the city condensed and easily walkable. We have secured two hotel blocks downtown within walking distance to everything and have also listed some of our other favorite hotels in the area. If you don't want to rent a car, we recommend staying in downtown proper on the isthmus - everything will be within walking distance if the weather is nice! As you move away from downtown, lodging prices will be reduced but you will have to rent a car or uber to downtown for events. No need to panic - there is no home football game this weekend!

Flight

Dane County Regional Airport

Madison has a small airport that is a ten-minute drive to downtown. American, Delta, United, Frontier, and Sun Country Airlines fly into this airport. Rental cars are available but it is a quick and cheap Uber to downtown and from there everything is within walking distance!

Flight

Milwaukee - General Mitchell International Airport

The Milwaukee airport is an hour and twenty-minute drive from downtown and is a much larger airport than Madison. There are plenty of rental car options and the drive is quick and easy. There are also busses available that run every few hours between this airport and the UW-Madison Campus in downtown Madison.

Flight

Chicago O'Hare International Airport

O'Hare is the largest and typically the most affordable airport to fly into to get to Madison. All major airlines fly here and there is an additional airport in Chicago for smaller airlines - Chicago Midway. There are plenty of rental car options and the drive is between two and three hours depending on Chicago traffic. There are also plenty of buses that connect the UW-Madison Campus in downtown Madison to O'hare and they run very frequently.

Hotel

The Edgewater Hotel

1001 Wisconsin Place
Madison, WI 53703
 (608) 535-8200

The Edgewater is one of Madison's nicest hotels situated in the heart of downtown and directly on Lake Mendota! It is a quick 10-minute walk to the Union for the reception and is within a short walking distance to all the fantastic food, bars, and other attractions in downtown. From this hotel you should be able to get everywhere of interest on foot.

Hotel

Wisconsin Union Hotel

1308 West Dayton Street
Madison, WI 53715
 (608) 263-2600

UW-Madison has two student unions on campus - Memorial Union and Union South. Memorial Union is the reception venue and a 10-15 minute walk away is the more modern Union South which has its own hotel on the top floors. This hotel is in the heart of campus directly next to Camp Randall where the Badger football team plays and has a coffee shop, bar, rock wall, bowling alley, and other restaurants in the lobby. This is a favorite for both of our families throughout our time at the University, though it will be a little bit of a longer walk (20-25 minutes) to get to the center of downtown.

Hotel

Graduate Madison

601 Langdon Street
Madison, WI 53703
 (608) 257-4391

This hotel is steps away from the ceremony and reception and is located right on the main pedestrian-only street, State Street, which boasts many of the best restaurants and bars in Madison. This hotel is a little quirky but has a fun rooftop bar that is summer camp themed and has some views of Lake Mendota. Excellent location with everything in walking distance.

Hotel

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Madison Central, an IHG Hotel

610 John Nolen Drive
Madison, WI 53713

This hotel is a more affordable option just a short drive from downtown Madison with a beautiful commute over Lake Mendota and a stunning view of the skyline! If you decide to stay in this area, we do recommend you get a car, it is a 5-10 minute drive downtown. Uber is another option for transportation as well.
