Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Please RSVP by Friday, January 26th

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

This is an Orthodox wedding which means most people will stand throughout the hour-and-a-half service. If you're unable to stand, don't worry: There will be some chairs for those who are not physically able. You’re welcome to wear a jacket and a tie or the equivalent for women.

Question

Where are you registered?

Answer

You can view our complete registry if you want to order online here on our Zola website. If you prefer to buy in store, we're registered at Crate and Barrel, Sur La Table, and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. (We always appreciate gift cards, too, particularly to Crate and Barrel.) Thank you!

Question

Help! I’ve never been to an Orthodox wedding. What should I expect?

Answer

An Orthodox wedding is very beautiful and full of symbolism. You can expect it to last about an hour-and-a-half. There are no pews in an Orthodox church; everyone stands through the service, though there will be chairs for those who are physically unable to stand. Wear comfortable shoes! Here is a summary of the order of the service (taken from the OCA website): The Rite of Betrothal, in which rings are exchanged as a sign of commitment and devotion. The “Crowning,” in which crowns are placed on the heads of the bride and groom, signifying that the bride and groom become the “king and queen” of their own “kingdom,” or family, within the Kingdom of God. The common cup of wine, signifying that in marriage all things are shared equally. The procession around the sacramental table, called the "Dance of Isaiah," during which the priest leads the couple three times as they take their first steps together as husband and wife.

Question

Where can we stay?

Answer

If you’re looking for an inexpensive hotel, the La Quinta on 75 (4440 N Central Expy Dallas, TX 75206) is a decent option. There are lots of other hotels close to the church as well. We also recommend checking out the many AirBnBs in the area which are often much less expensive than a hotel. We recommend staying fairly close to the church because Dallas is huge and traffic can be rough even on the weekends. Plus, Dallas drivers and our suicide merge lanes can be hair-raising if you’re not used to them. The Oak Lawn, Uptown, Knox-Henderson, and Vickery Place neighborhoods are all about 10-15 minutes of the church and reception.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Yes, there will be parking at both but you may need to park along the street of the church if you get there late to the ceremony. Be cognizant of parking signs, obviously, but there is usually plenty. There is plenty of parking at St. Rita's. The reception is in the Commons by the church.

Question

Can I take pictures during the ceremony?

Answer

This is a religious ceremony in a sacred space, and we would like to minimize distractions and allow everyone to be fully present with us. We ask that guests not take photos during the ceremony, but if you take any good ones afterwards at the reception, we hope that you will share them with us!

Question

What is the weather like in Dallas mid-February?

Answer

Your guess is as good as ours. There are only two seasons here: summer and not summer. It could be 30 degrees or 65. Keep an eye on the weather as you are packing.
