How we met

Joshua and Abigail met through the Young Adults Group at City Church. While attending a winter retreat, they went walking on the ice with a group of mutual friends. (They now joke that they met walking on water!) Joshua caught Abigail's eye and a hopeful spark was kindled until it was abruptly doused when Joshua forgot Abigail's name at their next meeting. It must be noted that Abigail was still quite taken with Joshua and jokingly called him "future husband" while around her immediate family. Time went by and six months later they found themselves in the same summer book-study group. Shortly after that, Joshua and Abbie went on a walk to get to know each other better and left the walk with the knowledge that each one liked the other. They spent some time praying over the potential relationship and began dating on August 30, 2019.

The engagement story

Joshua and Abigail were quarantined for two weeks after November 1st due to COVID exposure. At the end of this two-week period, Joshua picked up the ring and asked Abigail if she would like to go for a hike in celebration of release from quarantine. Unknowing of Joshua's plans, Abigail decided that was a great idea and agreed to go hiking on November 15th. They began their last hike as boyfriend and girlfriend at Gilbraltar Rock. At the top, Abigail was instructed to find her favorite lookout point and see how it compared with Joshua's. In looking out over the views, they noticed that there was an "e" in the field below. Being silly, Joshua started to list off words that began with "e" such as excellent and eagle (they saw one) until he realized that a very important word began with "e." When Abbie's favorite lookout was chosen (it happened to be the same as his) Joshua explained that there was another reason for their hike. He asked Abigail if she could think of any other reason. The hint was given that it also had to do with "e." An inkling formed in her mind, but as she thought, none of the words that had to do with marriage (ring, marry, fiance) began with "e." She began being silly, thinking that this couldn't be the time. The first word that she could think of was earthworm followed by everywhere. At this point, Joshua thought that Abigail was playing around and being silly, however, that was not the case. In an attempt to think of possible words, they discovered a new word "endomometer" and at that point, the beginning of the word was enough to help Abigail make connections to the real word. At that same moment, other individuals walked around the bend, and they had to wait with both of them knowing that an ENGAGEMENT was going to happen. They walked around the paths for another ten minutes before the coast was clear. Then Joshua got down on one knee, pulled the ring from a secret pocket, and asked, "Abigail, will you be my future wife?" The answer was yes!
