Balboa Park
Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre urban cultural park in San Diego, California, United States. In addition to open space areas, natural vegetation zones, green belts, gardens, and walking paths, it contains museums, several theaters, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. Fun Fact -- The Prado Restaurant in Balboa Park is where Chan first introduced Chris to Mama & Papa Joe!
San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is a zoo in Balboa Park, San Diego, California, housing more than 3,500 animals of more than 650 species and subspecies. With over four million visitors a year, the San Diego Zoo is the most popular zoo in the country! It can also be a great workout :)
Torrey Pines Golf Course
Torrey Pines is the beautiful site of one of the most memorable battles in golf's history--the 2008 U.S. Open. While taking in the views and gorgeous weather, discover our award winning golf shop where you can take home some of the magic. Fun fact -- Chaneng grew up golfing on Torrey Pines, and competed in numerous national competitions here. It's her favorite course!
La Jolla Shores Beach
La Jolla Shores Beach is one of largest and most popular beaches in San Diego, with options to picnic, kayak, get a surf lesson, visit the seals, or shop in the nearby La Jolla Cove. Fun fact -- La Jolla Shores Beach is less than 10 mins away (by car) from our wedding site, Estancia La Jolla!
18th Street Beach
The beach in Del Mar is one of the most beautiful and enjoyable in San Diego. The two plus miles of sandy beach offers a great place to relax, walk, or run. Two coastal parks, Powerhouse and Seagrove Parks, are located just above the 15th Street surf break; providing a great spot to picnic with friends and family. Fun fact -- this is where Chris proposed to Chaneng! He surprised her with a sunset picnic on the beach, followed by a wonderful dinner at Poseidon with both their parents (flown in from Toronto!). This is also where Chaneng grew up going to the beach with her family and friends. Del Mar 18th Street is a 15-20 min drive from Estancia.
Little Italy
Little Italy is a chic, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, packed with trendy cocktail bars, brewpubs and restaurants with bustling patios. Upscale clothing boutiques, indie music venues and quaint piazzas dot the area. Fun fact -- Chaneng's favorite restaurants in Little Italy are Bencotto, Prep Kitchen, Parakeet, Juniper & Ivy. San Diego's famous Ballast Point brewing has a great location here - Chris' favorite beer is the Sculpin! Little Italy Farmer's Market is Chaneng's favorite in San Diego, it happens every Saturday from 9am - 1pm.
Encinitas
Encinitas was recently named among the 20 best surf towns in the world by National Geographic, Encinitas wears its surf history proudly. Located along six miles of Pacific Ocean coastline, Encinitas is an unspoiled reminder of the historic Highway 101 beach culture that thrived in the mid-1900s. Fun fact - Chaneng lived here before she moved back to SF in 2015, where she would go on to meet Chris! Encinitas is Chaneng & Chris' favorite place in San Diego (aside from the Joe Household)! Recommendations here are: Moonlight Beach, Lofty Coffee, The Taco Stand, Union Kitchen & Tap, Modern Times Brewery.
