The Wedding Website of Amber Stauffer and Chad DesMarteau
Here's all you'll need to know for getting to the city and finding a place to stay for the weekend! The city itself is big, but we'll be based in the smaller historic "Centro" area. Centro is very easy to navigate and walkable. We recommend arranging a ride if you want to explore outside of centro. As there aren't any big hotels in Centro, we are not able to do room blocks for our guests. We recommend booking at one of the many small boutique hotels around town. We'll list a few of our recommendations below. Also, there are a ton of cool options on AirBnB that are worth checking out! Just search Oaxaca "centro". Lastly, before you book your accommodations, go ahead and click on the "Schedule" tab above to see where our events will be over the course of the weekend. Use these event locations in maps to find something that is easy walking distance for you. If you have any questions or need some help finding a good spot, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're happy to help!

Flight

Oaxaca International Airport (OAX)

When booking your flight, you’ll want to fly directly into Oaxaca City: Xoxocotlan International Airport (OAX). It's a small regional airport that's simple to navigate, and about a 20 minute drive to the central district of the city (Centro) where all of the weekend's events will be based. Other than direct flights from Los Angeles, most of the flight options will connect through Dallas or Houston. There are also options to connect through Mexico City International Airport. Flights on Thursday 2.22.24 are limited so we suggest booking as soon as possible or plan to come in Wednesday 2.23.24. With a connecting flight in mind, make sure you allow enough time for flight delays, larger airports and immigration (if connecting through MXC) IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please make sure to check the expiration date of your passport, or apply for one ASAP if you don’t currently have one. The official wait time is 6-9 weeks, but could always take longer.

Travel Note

Transportation from the airport (OAX) into town

Once you receive your luggage at OAX, just before you exit the airport, there is a taxi booth called Transporte Terrestre with a clearly marked sign that says “TAXI”. Let them know you will need a cab to “el Centro”. There will be two options: A private car, about $410 pesos ($20 USD) or a transfer with other people called Collectivo, about $105 pesos ($6.50 USD). The cab stand takes credit card (Visa) or pesos. You will show them the address of your accommodation, so make sure to have it ready when you purchase your ticket and later to show your driver. Once you have your ticket, follow the exit sign out of the building. You will take a right out of the door and cross the street. As you cross, you'll see drivers in the parking lot waiting next to some white vans/cars. Show one of these drivers your tickets, and they'll direct you to the correct taxi. Once you're in the taxi you've been directed to, the driver will take your tickets and ask for the address of your hotel/Airbnb. You'll get your private car, or if taking the “collectivo” option you’ll wait for it to fill up (these are group taxis, so you will be riding with other people). The driver will leave when the taxi is full enough, and they will drop everyone off at their location. You can follow along on the ride by putting the address into your maps to know which stop is yours. Alternatively, please reach out to your hotel or airbnb as they might have a transfer service available.
