Reece: Officially, Hannah and I met in middle school but I don’t think we had a proper meeting until we were in the same biology class freshman year of highschool. She basically completely ignored me for another guy in class but look who won in the end! Hannah: I honestly don't think we officially met until senior year of high school? I remember talking to him for the first time at BJ's in Laguna Beach after I tagged along with Paige and her ASB friends. Reece was also there with his ASB friends, and we ended up sitting next to each other. I think I talked to him the whole time.. like I talked only, the whole time lol
Hannah: I know people don't believe us when we say we were actually, truly just friends, but we were and I am proud of that. We went to prom senior year, Reece with Paige, and I with Eddie, best friends with best friends! We spent the summer going to the beach, each other's houses, Angels games, the movies, kicking a soccer ball around, and playing board games etc. We both left home for college, me to Sonoma State in Northern CA and Reece to Morningside in Iowa. During the school years, we kept in touch, and during the summers and holiday breaks we picked up right where we left off. After we both graduated, we moved home to our parents' houses, and so did our friends Miranda and Easton. It was so fun to be new adults together! I have always respected and cared for Reece, and felt respected and cared for by him, and our friendship is still one of my most treasured things. Reece: Hannah was truly one of my best friends in this time period. I’m not saying I wasn't super attracted to her, because I was, but we really were just friends. She was constantly inviting herself over to watch sports and hang out with my family. She literally came over every day for about a month in the summer of 2014 to watch the World Cup games with me. Hannah and I were constantly going to the beach, movies, and game nights with various friend groups. As the years went on she was one of the few constant relationships in my life and eventually I realized I wanted to be more than friends with her. There are a bunch of things that I loved about her but her desire to read and grow as a person were two things that really drew me to her.
Hannah: Because we were putting our friends’ group at risk with a potential break up, we took the decision to start dating pretty seriously. I had dated a few other people, but when I started dating Reece, I felt like I had been missing out all along. At first I thought he was too good to be true... it took a while for me to believe that he really is that phenomenal as a human, but dating him confirmed on an even deeper level that Reece is consistent, trustworthy, selfless, patient, smart, hardworking, flexible, and kind all the way through. I've never met someone who embodies so many of my core values and lives with so much integrity. We spent the next four and half years growing up together; we started our careers, spent tons of time with each others' families, and took trips with our friends. We built a life and partnership together that I knew I wanted to keep. Reece: My feelings for Hannah hit me like a ton of bricks one weekend when we were at the bars in Newport Beach with some of our friends. I saw her dancing with another guy and I got pretty upset. It took me a few months to tell her how I felt but thank god for that random guy in Newport that night or I might not have ever figured out how much I loved her. We started racking up relationship milestones and before I knew it I was asking her parents for permission to propose! I remember Lisa screamed super loud and Blaine just smiled and reached over to shake my hand. Hannah is so smart, fun, and funny and we are always having the best time together.
Reece: I purchased Hannah’s engagement ring and started planning the proposal (thank you Paige and Miranda for all the help). I decided I was going to propose in the place where we had our 1 year anniversary and then invite our friends and family over to surprise Hannah at our apartment for dinner. That is one of the best nights of my life. We’ve been living the dream ever since but can’t wait to make it official. She’s constantly wanting to progress and I need that in my life. She truly is making me a better person every day. Hannah: He planned the best proposal! Our moms secretly went together before to set up our spot on the cliff, but when he got down on one knee it was just him and I (and our photographer/best friend). I guessed it was happening when we started the long walk up the trail, but I was still shocked and overwhelmed by this life changing question! Afterward, I thought we were going to dinner to celebrate, just had to drop Miranda off at her car and say hi to Jason who was here from WA before we left… but when I stepped into our apartment, our families and best friends were waiting to surprise me, complete with dinner prepared, a banner hanging, and the table decorated with flowers and gifts . I had been texting all week planning our Friendsgiving for that Friday, but everyone except me knew it was going to be Wednesday for our engagement celebration instead! Experiencing their excitement and support made the night even more special.
