Travel Note
Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay in Italy, plus at least 3 months beyond your departure date. We recommend checking your expiration date now.
Travel Note
There are no direct flights from North America to Florence, so you will need to connect through another European city to Florence's Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR). The easiest options are to fly into Rome (FCO) or Milan (MXP) and continue by train, or fly directly into Florence — all three options take about the same amount of time in total.
Flight
The closest airport to the city. After landing and collecting your luggage, make your way to the city center by taxi (approximately €22–28, about 20 minutes) or Tram T2 to Firenze Santa Maria Novella station (€2.50, about 20 minutes, runs every 5–10 minutes). You can purchase your tram ticket on the platform. Once you board, validate it using the yellow machines inside the tram.
Flight
After clearing customs, follow signs to the Felice Santini train station connected to the airport and take the Leonardo Express to Roma Termini (€14, runs every 15 minutes, about 32 minutes). From there, take a high-speed Frecciarossa (trenitalia.com) or Italo train (italotreno.com) to Firenze Santa Maria Novella, about 1.5 hours. There are approximately 90 trains between Rome and Florence daily, so you can purchase your ticket at the station or in advance on your phone. Total travel time approximately 2–2.5 hours.
Flight
After clearing customs, make your way to the Malpensa Express train station in Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 depending on which terminal you fly into. Take the Malpensa Express to Milano Centrale (€15, runs every 15 minutes, about 51 minutes). From there, take a high-speed Frecciarossa (trenitalia.com) or Italo train (italotreno.com) to Firenze Santa Maria Novella, about 1 hour 40 minutes. There are approximately 60 trains between Milan and Florence daily. Total travel time approximately 3–4 hours. We recommend purchasing your train ticket after clearing customs so you know which train you can make.
Travel Note
We recommend staying near Piazza Santa Maria Novella, which offers convenient access to the church, Thursday evening festivities, and Friday transportation. Recommended hotel options will be added soon. Guests may also wish to explore apartments and short-term rentals available throughout Florence via Airbnb, Booking.com, and Apartments Florence.
Travel Note
Florence is a very walkable city, and walking will likely be your primary mode of transportation throughout the historic center. Standard Uber is not available in Italy. Download AppTaxi or TaxiMove to book taxis. We do not recommend renting a car as parking in Florence is limited and expensive.
Travel Note
The EU is planning to launch ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) in late 2026, a new entry requirement for non-EU travelers visiting Italy, including those from the US, Canada, and the UK. As of now, the exact timeline is still being finalized and we do not expect it to impact travel for our wedding. We will monitor any updates closely and keep this page current. For the latest information visit travel-europe.europa.eu/etias.
