Flight
(Approx. 20 minutes to Aliso Viejo) John Wayne Airport is the closest airport to the hotel and offers a quick, easy drive. While flights and rental cars can sometimes be more expensive than LAX, SNA is a great option for guests planning a shorter stay, those who prefer a smaller airport experience, or anyone not planning to rent a car and instead use rideshare services like Uber or Lyft.
Flight
(Approx. 60 minutes to Aliso Viejo) LAX is Michael and Holly’s preferred airport. Though a bit farther than SNA, it offers the most nonstop flights and often the best car rental rates. A rental car is the ideal way to explore California at your own pace.
Flight
(Approx. 80 minutes to Aliso Viejo) For our more adventurous guests, SAN is a fun alternative. With a rental car, you can explore California’s coast and beyond. SAN also offers nonstop flights and competitive rental rates—great option if you were planning on a visit further south.
Rental Car
Rental Cars & Getting Around We recommend renting a car while visiting Southern California—it’s the easiest way to get around. Airports: • John Wayne Airport (SNA): Smallest and easiest option, but rental cars here can sometimes be pricier. • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX): Large airport with off-site rental facilities. Choose a company with a free airport shuttle so you don’t need to Uber to pick up your car. • San Diego International Airport (SAN): Major airport, generally calmer than LAX. Rental cars are nearby via a short shuttle. Insurance (important): Rental car insurance is not legally required in California if you already have personal auto insurance or credit card coverage. Some companies strongly push add-ons, so we recommend confirming your coverage in advance and choosing companies with clear policies. Rental options we trust: • Fox Rent-A-Car – Not the most glamorous, but affordable, reliable, includes an airport shuttle, and has clear insurance policies (we’ve used them many times) • Major brands (Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, Budget) – Reliable and convenient, can be slightly higher priced • Turo – Great alternative if you prefer renting directly from a local host (pickup locations vary) Quick tips: • Comparison sites (Kayak, Expedia, Costco Travel) are great for deals—just review insurance details • Take photos of the car at pickup and return • Decline any extras you don’t want—fees add up fast Toll Roads You can get everywhere you need to go without using toll roads. If you’re in a rental car, make sure your GPS is set to avoid tolls — rental company fees can add up quickly. Toll Lane PSA 🚨 Orange County also has toll lanes, usually on the far left. If you see signs for “FasTrak,” avoid those lanes to prevent toll charges. "Carpool" lanes AKA "HOV" are free to use if there are two or more people in the car.
