Our Story

Jordan still remembers the first time he ever saw Cela during her tour on her first day working at Dierbergs in 2017 — her trainer took her back to the produce department where Jordan was working for a quick introduction. They worked across the store from each other for a few years with minimal interaction, but consider the first time they truly met to be June 1st, 2019, when Cela was hanging out with a group of Dierbergs friends, including a fellow “Produce Pro” (now groomsman Josh Vogt) who invited Jordan to join. After an evening of friendly banter and clever jokes, the two had caught one another’s attention. They were added to a Snapchat group chat, and a few weeks later they began chatting directly by discussing movies during Cela’s trip to New York. Jordan remains indebted to the Easter Island Head statue featured at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History (and in “Night at the Museum”) for the excuse to send Cela his first message. They began talking consistently, and later that summer Jordan went by himself to see Cela in a performance of Mamma Mia, and afterwards the two watched a movie together — their first official date. Thus began their summer fling, three months full of celebrating the Blues’ Stanley Cup victory, snow cones, and mini golf dates. But Cela’s move to Missouri State loomed over them and they were unsure how to proceed with their relationship. They left it up in the air when Cela moved to Springfield, but after spending a month apart, they knew they wanted to make it work. While home for Labor Day Weekend, Jordan asked Cela to be his girlfriend on September 1st, 2019. They continued a long distance relationship for the next three years, seeing each other once a month or so during the school year. While challenging, there are also many happy memories of Jordan’s visits to Springfield, meeting Cela’s friends and exploring the area, as well as spending time with each other’s friends and families when home in St. Louis. They went on their first trip together in 2021 to Chicago and have continued traveling ever since. After Cela’s graduation in December of 2022, Cela and Jordan moved in together in St. Louis, an exciting step after many years of long distance. They spent nearly two years there enjoying their city, starting their careers and establishing a life together. In fall of 2024, they made the leap to move to Tampa, Florida. The transition, equal parts daunting, exciting, and uncertain, was quickly revealed to be an extraordinary opportunity to live somewhere new together and build a community independently. It inevitably brought them closer together and has given them the most incredible memories, including beach days, visits to Disney World and Universal Studios, dolphin watching at Vinoy Park, and exploring their new home. On January 23rd (1-2-3) of 2026, Jordan asked Cela to marry him after six years of dating at their favorite spot: Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg, Florida, as dolphins swam beneath the evening sunset. It was a magical night and they are ecstatic to marry each other in August of 2027 and celebrate with their friends and family.
