Denver's elevation is 5,280 feet, while our venue will be in the mountains at approximately 9,200 feet elevation. If possible, try to arrive in Denver a day or two early to acclimate prior to driving up to the mountains. We understand that this may not be possible for many guests, so follow these pointers for easier adjustment: - Drink lots of water from the minute you land in Denver (3-4 times more than you typically drink...seriously!) - Reduce intake of alcohol, caffeine and salty foods - Don't over exert yourself. Vail has a great selection of easy hiking/walking trails if you want to get out in the mountains. Just remember that your heart works a lot harder at altitude. - Wear sunscreen and sunglasses! The sun is much more intense at this altitude, and we don't want any lobsters at our wedding :-) - Alcohol will be served at our wedding. Please keep in mind that the effects of alcohol are much stronger at high altitude.
Yes! There are 2 options: Altigen is an over-the-counter option. You will need to begin taking this medication 2-3 days before your trip, and continue using it throughout your stay. Altigen can be found at http://www.getaltigen.com/ Diamox (Acetazolamide) is a prescription medication that can be used to treat altitude sickness. If you are concerned about altitude sickness, we highly recommend speaking with your doctor about a prescription for Diamox for your trip.
Symptoms of altitude sickness: headache, nausea, unusual tiredness and trouble sleeping. These will typically pass as your body acclimates. Just keep drinking lots of water!
While we love all of the kiddos in our lives, we have chosen for our wedding day to be an adult only occasion. We hope this advance notice means you are still able to share our big day and will enjoy having the evening off!
Vans will provide transportation for guests to/from the venue from pre-determined hotels in the Vail area. Please see the Travel page for more information.
Our ceremony and reception will both take place at a venue called Camp Hale, which is about 30 minutes outside of Vail. Camp Hale has a fascinating history! It was a U.S. Army training facility constructed in 1942 for what became the 10th Mountain Division activated during WWII. Soldiers were trained in mountain climbing, Alpine and Nordic skiing, cold-weather survival as well as various weapons and ordnance. When it was in full operation, approximately 15,000 soldiers were housed there.
Semi-formal - Formal. What do we mean? This is not a black tie event, but it's not a mountain campout either. No tuxes needed, but please also no jeans, shorts, or tank tops. *Keep in mind that the mountains tend to cool down during the evening. Our reception will be under an outdoor tent with heaters, but please be prepared for a cool night.
We have created a "Honeymoon Fund" on the "Registry" page of this website where we are collecting contributions towards our honeymoon. We are also registered at Crate & Barrel for items that will help us build our home.
