FAQ

Question

Why Maine?

Answer

We've always wanted a destination wedding! Travel has been a huge part of our relationship, from trips across the continental US to adventures abroad, so it felt natural to say "I do" somewhere far from home (although Pittsburgh will always have our hearts)! When we sat down to pick a location, Maine quickly rose to the top. Some of Danielle's fondest childhood memories are from summers spent at her family's lake house in Casco, and she's always dreamed of sharing her favorite place in the world with the people she loves. In September 2022, Danielle took the chance to share this special place with Chris during a fall road trip through New England, showing him exactly why she loved it so much. That trip is when we both felt this might be a forever kind of thing :) Fast-forward to December 31, 2025: Chris pulled off the sweetest, most thoughtful proposal at Boston Common Garden. We rang in the New Year, and the start of this new chapter, right in downtown Boston! Looking back, so many of our most meaningful moments as a couple have happened in New England. Getting married in Portland surrounded by everyone we love felt like the perfect way to top it all off! If you're heading up to Maine or New England for the first time for our wedding, we hope you fall in love with it just like we did!

Question

You're getting married on a boat?!

Answer

Heck yeah we are! The Casablanca is an 85-foot double decker private charter vessel that offers an unparalleled experience on the sparkling waters of Casco Bay, coupled with the stunning backdrop of lighthouses and the Portland skyline! The ship is equipped with two full bars and can accommodate up to 150 guests. The ceremony will be located outdoors on the upper deck (weather permitting). The cocktail hour will be held on the lower deck, which is covered. The upper deck has both a covered section with a bar and an exposed section for dancing & catching the breeze during the cruise. The covered areas are heated, in case it gets chilly in the evening!

Question

When do I RSVP?

Answer

Please RSVP by August 10, 2026.

Question

What happens if I don't RSVP in time?

Answer

If we do not get an RSVP by August 10, it will be marked as a "No". We will miss you celebrating with us, however, we have to provide a total guest count to our venue in a timely manner. Due to this requirement, we cannot accept late RSVPs.

Question

What if I can't make it?

Answer

Your presence will surely be missed. Please RSVP "Regretfully Decline". You will still be there celebrating with us in spirit!

Question

What's the dress code?

Answer

Coastal formal attire is requested! We'd love to see our family and friends dress up with us & have fun with it! For the ladies: midi or maxi length dresses, dressy jumpsuits, or elegant separates. Jewel tones make a lovely touch for the season, but not required! For the guys: suits are encouraged, ties are great, but not mandatory. Just don't be that guy that wears jeans and sneakers to a wedding ;) Feel free to check out this Pinterest board for some inspiration: https://pin.it/1LCAxjpe7 Keep in mind: We will be cruising on the Maine coast in October. We suggest bringing a wrap, blazer, or cardigan as it could get chilly in the evening.

Question

Is there a room block?

Answer

Yes! We have a small room block at the Aloft Portland Downtown Waterfront for Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11. Room availability is first-come first-serve, so to guarantee your room at this discount, we recommend to book ASAP! You can find more information about the room block, hotel, and the booking link via the Travel page!

Question

What time should I arrive on wedding day?

Answer

Please arrive NO LATER than 4:15pm @ Casablanca Cruises. Boarding begins at 4:30pm, and the boat departs promptly at 5:00pm. Don't miss the boat (or our wedding)! We suggest arriving early to grab a drink and mingle at The Porthole Restaurant & Pub while you wait to board. To get to the venue, we recommend walking or taking an Uber/Lyft. Parking and traffic in Old Port can be tricky, so plan extra time if you're driving! The boat will take off promptly at 5:00pm. On the boat we will have our ceremony, cocktail reception, and dancing to follow! If you are late to board, you will sadly miss our entire wedding! *Please bring your ID on board- it's a coast guard rule!*

Question

Can I take pictures at the ceremony?

Answer

This will be an unplugged ceremony. Please refrain from taking pictures until after the ceremony concludes. We have a fabulous team of photographers and videographers who will capture the day, and we will be happy to share those memories with you at a later date. Unplug and enjoy the ride! After the ceremony concludes, feel free to take as many pictures as you want! There will be plenty of sunset photo ops as we sail around the bay :)

Question

Are children invited?

Answer

While we adore your little ones, our destination wedding will be adults-only, with the exception of children in our immediate families & wedding party. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to enjoy a relaxing trip and celebrate with us!

Question

Will I get motion sickness?

Answer

Most likely not! The boat is on very calm waters and will be moving at a glacial pace. Dramamine will be available if needed.

Question

Will there be an open bar?

Answer

The drinks and good times are on us!! Get ready to party!

Question

Are there special rules while on the boat?

Answer

There is no smoking of any kind (vaping included) while on the boat. Also, no rough-housing or attempting to jump overboard. Fair warning - if you act up, we will make you walk the plank ;)
