In October of 2014, Cayley and Sam were halfway through a Thursday night shift at The Exchange Tavern. Thursday night was trivia night. Cayley was sitting at the pizza bar rolling silverware while Sam was slaving away at the pizza oven. Suddenly, Sam heard Cayley say "Glaucoma." He turned around, confused and said "Huh? Did you just say something?" She replied, "Yes. Glaucoma. The answer to the trivia question". Sam, bemused, kept up the conversation and 8 years later they are planning their wedding.

On October 1st of 2021, Sam and Cayley went out to a corn maze and the Spirit Halloween store. Halloween has always been a special time for them. When they got home, Sam told Cayley she should make herself scarce for a few hours to go see her mom. Sam wanted to decorate the house while she was gone for Halloween and wanted to have his big reveal all at once. When Cayley returned, she was met with lights, props, fog machines, and a KILLER Halloween display. She thought that was it, that that was the big surprise. When she opened the door to go inside, she knew. Their whole living room was decorated with lights and candles. A slideshow of their pictures was playing on the TV, and there was a picnic blanket set up surrounded by all of the little notes they had written each other over the years.
