Things To Do

Santa Teresa Beach

Santa Teresa Beach

Santa Teresa Beach, Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica

Santa Teresa is one of our favorite beaches—a perfect mix of lush jungle, relaxed vibes, and (usually) just enough peace and quiet. You'll find plenty of delicious spots to eat, sandy toes guaranteed, and countless stunning sunsets worth a toast (or two)! A fantastic surf spot, and the subject of one of Caya's favorite documentaries.

Papagayo Peninsula

Papagayo Peninsula

Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica

Papagayo is Costa Rica’s little slice of luxury: crystal-clear waters, pristine beaches, and upscale comfort in a tropical paradise. Ideal for snorkeling, relaxing by the pool, or simply lounging under swaying palms with a cool drink. If you're looking for pure relaxation, Papagayo is your spot.

La Fortuna

La Fortuna

La Fortuna, Alajuela Province, Costa Rica

La Fortuna sits at the base of a sleepy—but seriously stunning—stratovolcano. It's an adventure lover’s paradise: kayak along serene lakes, saddle up for horseback riding, explore scenic hiking trails, or zoom above the rainforest canopy on a zipline. Whatever your thrill, La Fortuna delivers!

Monteverde

Monteverde

Monteverde, Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Monteverde is a dreamy escape into Costa Rica’s lush cloud forest—where misty trails, hanging bridges, and vibrant wildlife await. Explore treetop walks, go birdwatching (hello, quetzals!), or simply breathe in the crisp mountain air. If you’re up for some magical greenery, Monteverde is the place to be!

San José Area

San José Area

San José, San José Province, Costa Rica

San José is Costa Rica's bustling capital, home to most of us "ticos." Expect pleasant temperatures ranging from 20–25°C (68–77°F) year-round. Though the city itself isn't exactly the star of the show (trust us—our beaches and rainforests steal that spotlight!), it still has its charms. If you do find yourself wandering around San José, here are some of our favorite local gems to explore (spoiler alert: they’re mostly about food!).

Restaurante Silvestre

We can bet $1 this place will be in the Michelin Guide soon. Absolutely go for the tasting menu. (Also the restaurant where Caya proposed). $$$

lofe restaurante

A fantastic fresh pasta joint a few steps from our apartment. Go for the Lamb Ragú or the Pumpkin stuffed pasta. $$

Panadería Cumpanis

Caya's cousin Daniel is our partner in crime for geeking about food. He grew up in Belgium and isn't easy to please. He vouches for this croissant. $$

Fuso Pizza

Our favorite Neapolitan-style pizza. $

Maxi by Ricky

A taste of Costa Rica's Caribbean side (and the location for our engagement photos). $

Shibuya

Surprisingly good Nikkei-style food. Gotta try the Octopus with Olives $$$

Irazú Volcano

A day trip from San José to see one of Costa Rica's tallest volcanoes. Try to get there early to beat the clouds, and make sure you buy tickets in advance with the link below.
