Our Story
It all started on a sunny day in Hermosa at a co-ed beach volleyball tournament called Volley4Sound. Sam arrived with her Venice Beach volleyball crew in classic boardwalk tees. Mike went all in with a rock-and-roll costume—fake sleeve tattoo, eyeliner, suspenders, and a long black wig.
They faced each other in pool play, and Sam was a little intimidated by the costume and how Mike seemed to know everyone. Still, a few playful, flirty moments snuck in. After her team was eliminated, Sam stayed to watch the semifinals. Mid-rally, Mike removed his wig, and she realized he was not at all who she thought he was.
After the game, Sam headed home until she doubled back after forgetting something. The first person she ran into was Mike. They talked easily for ten minutes, then she left without giving him her number. The next morning, she woke up to a friend request from "Mike Cav." Two days later, they had their first date at The Rose in Venice—and that was the real beginning.
