This attraction costs $12-14 (extra $5 for roof access). How do we even describe City Museum?! From the website: "the museum is an eclectic mixture of children’s playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects." We've traveled quite a bit, and we've yet to see anything else quite like this. If you decide to go, we highly recommend limbering up beforehand.
This attraction costs $4-6 for St. Louis residents, and $12 for others. We love the serenity and beauty of this botanical garden, as well as its commitment to conservation work. Catherine especially loves the Climatron, which features waterfalls and tropical plants and trees and is kept at a balmy 85 degrees year round.
General admission is FREE, but the omnimax and planetarium require tickets. We recommend the senses exhibit, which features a number of fun optical illusions. Make sure to walk over bridge so you can check out the cars zooming underneath through the floor windows. We also love the Omnimax movies and the planetarium shows!
One of our friends once described this as the "Asian Chipotle" and we think that's pretty accurate. Noah recommends the lemongrass pesto shrimp plate, and Catherine recommends the build-your-own giant rice paper wrap with tofu, salad mix, and spicy sesame sauce.
Catherine's happy place. Check the schedule online for drop-in classes open to beginners, or contact the studio by email to set-up a private or group private lesson in advance. They are wonderful at working with adult beginners and you might surprise yourself with what you can do.
Grab a great book and enjoy the ambience of this place, recently rated the most loved book store in the state of Missouri. They're a progressive business committed to paying a fair wage and giving back to the community. RIP Spike the cat, you were so soft.
Catherine's favorite hiking trail in the area, about a 30 minute drive outside the city. Two loops, one 3-miles the other 5-miles, both include bluffs overlooking the Mississippi. It's not a super strenuous hike, but some parts are narrow and/or steep. Reward yourself with a trip to a winery nearby.
"A lovely walk with art on the 20-foot flood walls of the Mississippi" - Noah Throughout the year, but especially during the annual Paint Louis graffiti festivals, street artists cover more than a mile of the flood walls with murals and tags.
