We’re so excited to celebrate our marriage with friends and family from around the world! When putting together our guest list, we included everyone we’d want to invite—whether the wedding were in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, or Adana. With that in mind, we completely understand if you’re not able to make the trip to Istanbul. Still, we wanted to extend the invitation in case it was possible! We truly hope to see you there, but if not, we’ll look forward to celebrating together the next time we meet. To that point, we hope to host a reception in Dothan at some time in the year following our Istanbul nuptials. In short: no pressure to attend, but we’d be absolutely delighted by your presence!

Dünyanın dört bir yanından sevdiklerimizle düğünümüzü kutlamak için çok heyecanlıyız! Davetli listemizi oluştururken, düğünün Amerika veya Adana'da olacağı fark etmeksizin davet etmek istediğimiz herkesi dahil ettik. Dolayısıyla, İstanbul'a gelemeyecek durumdaysanız bunu tamamen anlıyoruz. Yine de, davetimizi sizinle paylaşmak istedik. Sizi aramızda görmekten büyük mutluluk duyacağız. Ancak eğer katılamazsanız, bir sonraki buluşmamızda birlikte kutlamayı dört gözle bekliyoruz. Kısacası: Kesinlikle baskı yok, ancak sizi aramızda görmek bizi çok mutlu edecek!

We both joined the Geography department at Michigan State University in the Fall of 2021. We have overlapping but separate recollections of the first time we met, but agree that GEO Camp was when our friendship actually began. Over the following months we would edit abstracts, drink beers, discuss the definition of the discipline, play soccer, and all other tasks required to navigate graduate school. Inevitably we became best friends— essentially doing all tasks together. So much so, Katie invited Mehmet to join her family holiday celebrations over winter break. After a two week road trip (Michigan —> Alabama —> Texas —> Michigan) Mehmet says his feelings for Katie were solidified when upon their arrival to East Lansing, they both wanted to go and recant the trip at the Peanut Barrel. A few months of courting and by March we were officially dating. Since then we have had countless adventures both near and far from home, but slow mornings and days in the backyard are definitely some of our favorite memories. That said, November 2, 2025 may have beat out all the experiences to-date when we got engaged at Woldumar Nature Center. Since then, we have continued to play NYT games nearly everyday, watch too many movies to count, take Lucy on lengthy campus strolls, and celebrate our engagement with friends and relatives at every opportunity. We can’t wait to see what the rest of our days look like as we take on the next title of Husband and Wife!

İkimiz de 2021 Sonbaharı'nda Michigan State Üniversitesi Coğrafya Bölümü'ne katıldık. İlk tanıştığımız anla ilgili anılarımız birbirine yakın ama farklı olsa da, arkadaşlığımızın gerçekten GEO Kampı'nda başladığı konusunda hemfikiriz. Sonraki aylarda birlikte özetler düzenledik, bira içtik, disiplinin tanımını tartıştık, futbol oynadık ve lisansüstü eğitimi yürütmek için gereken her türlü görevi birlikte yerine getirdik. Kış tatilinde yaptığımız iki haftalık bir yolculuğun ardından, Mehmet, East Lansing'e (Texas'tan dönüşümüzde) vardığımızda ikimizin de doğruca Peanut Barrel'a gidip bu yolculuğu anlatmak istemesiyle duygularının netleştiğini söylüyor. Birkaç aylık flörtün ardından, Mart ayında resmen sevgili olduk. O zamandan bu yana sayısız macera yaşadık. Hem iş hem tatil için Amerika'da pek çok yeri dolaştık, her yaz birlikte Türkiye’yi keşfettik. Ve nihayet, 2 Kasım 2025’te Woldumar Doğa Merkezi’nde nişanlandık.
