This is Mathew's all-time favorite spot in Thomasville--and for good reason! This restaurant serves up southern and coastal classics with creole flavor. You cannot go wrong with this pick! If you're one of our Kansan guests looking to cut your teeth on cheese grits and sweet tea, this is the place to do it. So show up early and grab a bite before exploring downtown! If the wait is long--and it will be-- duck into the bar at Liam's next door and grab a drink while you wait! Matt's favorite dish is the Cajun shrimp & grits!
Mom & Dad's is an authentic Italian restaurant that only serves made-from-scratch dishes and expertly mixed cocktails! It is Catherine's favorite restaurant in Thomasville. She recommends their Fettuccini Alfredo with a strip of meat sauce. And don't forget to save room for Mrs. Anna's homemade cheesecake!
There is nothing like sitting on the patio at George & Louie's on a busy weekend night in the summer! They offer classic Greek and seafood dishes in a casual atmosphere.
This restaurant is popular, and the wait is often an hour at noon on a Wednesday, but people come from all over the country to try their fare. The guys love their cheeseburger! If you can't swing the wait time, order a drink at the bar (they make a mean margarita), and people watch for a spell before heading to the amphitheater for the concert!
The Plaza is Georgia's oldest continually-run restaurant, and it's located right downtown! Their Greek chicken and bacon-wrapped shrimp are to die for, and they also are home to one of the only bars in Thomasville. If you're in the mood for a more raucous crowd and live music, be sure to hit the Plaza's lounge on Friday or Saturday night!
If sipping a cocktail in a secluded booth is more your speed, Catherine recommends Liam's. Their restaurant offers an upscale, curated menu, but the bar next door is a sure thing; the drinks are strong and generous, and the atmosphere is cozy.
The Scoop is a local favorite lunch spot and is the best place to pop into when spending an afternoon exploring downtown! It's a classic, inexpensive deli that hits the spot every single time!
The Thomasville History Museum boasts a collection of historical artifacts and spaces that tell the history of the town and the culturally rich--albeit problematic--history of Georgia's southwestern region and is an excellent way to spend an (air-conditioned) afternoon! Call ahead for tour availability!
Located in the heart of Thomasville's historic district is one of the most architecturally interesting homes in the Southeast. After the Great Chicago Fire, Chicago native and shoemaker C.W. Lapham built a winter vacation home in Thomasville, then considered the winter resort of the South. Paranoid by the fire's destruction of his home city, he designed the home to have exterior exits in every room and no right angles--save where the walls meet the floors and ceilings--so that he and his family would not be at risk of being cornered by a fire should the house go up in flames. Call ahead for tour availability; the tour is worth its value to any history or design buff!
Thomasville has been called one of the best main-street communities in the country, and it is due to the meticulous restoration and revitalization of our downtown! Between the restaurants and the shops, one can easily spend a day wandering around! Wedding weekend is also the weekend of Thomasville's First Friday Celebration in May! Restaurants and shops all stay open after-hours, and open container is legal downtown. There is also a free concert hosted by Downtown Thomasville at the Amphitheatre located on Remington and Jackson! We encourage all of our guests to arrive early in Thomasville to not miss this event. It really is one of the neatest gatherings in Catherine's hometown, so grab a drink, and we'll meet y'all there!
