Mathew and Catherine met through a mutual friend, Katey, her roommate and his freshman dorm hall-mate, at the beginning of their junior year at K-State. Katey had shown Matt a picture of her roommates, and, during a game of corn hole, he suggested to Katey that if he won that round, she would have to introduce him to Catherine when they went back to school the next semester. He won.

While on a weeklong road trip for Thanksgiving, Matt and Catherine made a stop in Savannah, Georgia for a couple of days. Catherine feels the most at-home when she’s on the Georgia coast, so Matt insisted that they could not come that close to the ocean without seeing the beach. He drove them out to Tybee Island as soon as they reached Savannah. After walking on the beach for a while, Matt got down on one knee. Catherine said, “Yes,” before he even had the chance to ask her to be his wife!
