The Wedding Website of Catherine Claro and Marcus Glick
About The Region Set west of Lake Como in the Italian Lakes District, Lake Maggiore is a long, thin wisp of a lake protected by mountains and fed by the River Ticino, which flows on to Milan. Roughly a quarter of the northern section of the lake is in Switzerland. We're getting married in Stresa! The largest town on the Italian side of Maggiore, elegant Stresa is the springboard to the Borromean Islands, the tiny baroque jewels of the lake. Now a genteel tourist town, Stresa captured the hearts of 19th-century aristocracy, who settled in grandiose villas strung along the promenade. Just back into the tangle of medieval streets, Piazza Cadorna is a mass of restaurants that spill out into the center of the square in summer. There's a craft market on Thursdays and a beach club on the lakefront. Traveling to Stresa Fly into Milan Malpensa airport (MXP). There are three options to get to Stresa: 1. Car 2. Train 3. Bus Please see travel specifics below.

Train

Trenitalia

Unfortunately, there is railway construction on part of the commute to Stresa thus changes in previous transportation provided. Here is an updated route from Milano Centrale to Stresa via train: Milano Centrale Train Station to Sesto Calende (Regional 46 mins) At Sesto Calende grab a bus to Arona (20 mins) At Arona take train again to Stresa (Regional 12 mins)- of note, the train with the stop in Stresa is the Domodossola line. Via the train website, you are able to book the entire trip which takes around 1h 47m. **There are other routes that include 3 changes, but the above is the fastest.

Rental Car

Hertz

Malpensa - Terminal 1 - MXP T1, Lombardia 21010, Italy

There are car rental options in both Terminal 1 & 2; however, we suggest booking a rental in your arrival terminal because the terminals are not co-located. Rental car company options include American brands such as Hertz, Avis and Alamo, which is great for a consistent rental experience and rewards club members! We recommend booking a vehicle with navigation to avoid cellular data fees. Approximate cost of $40 to $60/day, plus gas.

Travel Note

AirBnB Rentals

When we hunted for wedding venues on Lake Maggiore, we used AirBnB to find an economical and comfortable home base. We stayed in Belgirate, about 10 minutes south of Stresa by car. The cost was around $75/night for a two bedroom with a lovely view of the lake.
