Wingaersheek Beach is a favorite of the Doherty-Olsen family. Our favorite time to go is early evening when the tide is out - we pack a picnic dinner, play a game of SPUD, and walk out on the sandbar towards the lighthouse. You’ll want to reserve parking ahead of time, info found on Gloucester, MA website.
Escape to historic Rockport, Massachusetts. Visit Rockport for miles of lovely beaches, boulder-strewn paths through woods and glades, and that uncommonly magical light that has inspired painters since Winslow Homer. Filled with antique shops, art galleries, and wonderful dining, Rockport makes for a wonderful afternoon out.
Plum Island Beach is a beautiful New England barrier island. A family-friendly Newburyport attraction, Plum Island Beach offers many fun and interesting things to do. Discover amazing bird watching and the natural beauty of the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. Enjoy fishing, boating, kayaking or just chill out on the beach and make sure to visit the cool Plum Island restaurants.
Richardson's Ice Cream is another Doherty-Olsen favorite - we have spent many summer afternoons mini golfing, eating ice cream, and drinking raspberry lime rickies!
Crane Beach is a beautiful stretch of beach and dunes in Ipswich, and part of the conservation effort for the piping plover. Nearby is the historic Crane Estate on Castle Hill. The land we call Castle Hill was originally stewarded by indigenous peoples, who called this area Agawam, meaning “place beyond the marsh.” The Crane Estate is a Tudor Revival mansion in Ipswich, Massachusetts built 1926-1928 as a summer home for Mr. and Mrs. Richard Teller Crane, Jr. The grounds and mansion are open to tours and can be seen in the 2019 remake of Little Women.
