Take the day and explore Sintra. Pena Palace is like the sacred gem that crowns the hills of Sintra.
Belém Tower
Except a long line to go inside, but very cool to see from the waterfront. This 16th century tower on the water was built as a defense system to protect against enemy ships along the Tagus River.
Castelo de São Jorge
Beautiful castle at one of the highest points in the city. Gorgeous views and worth exploring. There are also beautiful peacocks roaming around. Go a couple hours before sunset so you can see it all and be there when the sun is setting and the castle get's lit up.
Igreja de São Vicente de Fora
Less well known and therefore less crowded. Super beautiful monastery and museum. Go all the way up on the roof and take in the view!

The castle on the hill, Obidos Castle is only a few minutes south of Caldas da Rainha.
Evora
Off the beaten path, Evora is worth every second of exploring. The Temple of Diana (Roman Temple) will draw you in, but the Chapel of Bones will either excite or haunt you.
