Two art kids at CCBC - We met in one of Dave's classes (he will always try and take credit for us). Owen didn't think I liked him. He was obviously wrong. The next semester I remember Owen was late to the first day of class. It wasn't because I was hoping he would be in Typography or anything .... ok maybe it was.
That's what all normal first dates consist of right? Carving zombies out of pumpkins and getting taco bell at 2 am. He also showed me how to make a paper crane out of a dove chocolate wrapper.
At some point I just stopped going home and became a regular apartment dweller. The Ham (lazy cat - for those of you who didn't know him) would wait for me in my chair to get back from work. The first thing we did when we got our paper cutting machine was make him a row of paper spikes so he could be a Hamasaurus. I miss him.
After living with Ray and Launa for a while, they got a house and we got our first apartment together! 2 pools, a gym, lots of space to walk the Waffles. We met Josh and Casey who lived upstairs - they eventually got Benji who quickly became Waffles' best friend. Then they got a house, and it was time for us too.
The day we brought Waffles home changed us forever. I couldn't imagine life without this fur loaf.
After 6 months of stressful back and forth negotiations on a short sale home - we were first time home owners! We both knew the minute we saw this house it was ours. Fun fact: When we stopped by to look at the house the first time, we couldn't get in. The code had been changed and we didn't get a response for a new one. So we gave up - went to see the other houses on our list that day, and hated every one of them. We were about to go home from the last house when our realtor got a call with the correct code. We went back to the house and that was that.
Waffles missed having a best friend right upstairs and needed a sister to (not) share his toys with - so we found him one! The minute they met they were inseparable. This day we brought home our fluffy fox. My fur daughter is the best cuddler, even if she has no spatial awareness.
Little kitten mews outside our sunroom door = 2 new additions to our little family - Our Midna & Olive. We brought them in to their forever home 4 weeks later.
While we have been talking about getting married for a while, and in fact had started planning our wedding day already, it was around sunset of August 17th that Owen officially proposed. While I was at work, he spent the day reworking the steps in the backyard leading down to the gate where we will walk to the stream on our wedding day. Our steps now have a monogrammed "S" for our last name, and once you walk out the back gate a path of hearts takes you into the woods. We walked down to the stream where we will be married on 9/19, and there he proposed. Did I still cry even though I knew it was coming? Absolutely.
Yes - It technically already happened, and it was perfect, in our backyard by the stream. But 2020 was a crazy year and we could only have 2 people there for everyone's safety, so we're doing it all over again with family and friends! We can't wait to celebrate with all of you!
