The aquarium is a short 20 minute drive from the venue, just over the harbor. Focusing on the wildlife around South Carolina, the harbor-side aquarium boasts river otters, bass, rattlesnakes, herons, and sea turtles. Additionally, if you have to have more, a behind the scenes tour is available.
Now, I know what you are thinking, “the beach, in December?!” However, a warm day has been known to happen in South Carolina, in December. It’s well worth the 20 minute drive to see the Sullivan Island Lighthouse. While you’re there, have lunch at Poe’s Tavern, it’s one of our favorite spots to stop on a day trip to the beach.

Home to over 300 vendors, one of the oldest markets in the US is sure the keep your eyes, hands, minds, and mouths full! Make sure to pick up a traditional sweetgrass basket as a token of your time in Charleston.
Want a separation from the crowd? Take a leisurely stroll down the paths at Shem Creek Park. On one of the larger brackish creeks, the park offers a wooden walk way around the marsh and creek. If you have good timing, you may even catch a view of the dolphins that frequent the creek.
