How We Met

2010

We met through Anime and Video Game Club in school at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. We don't know the exact date, just that it was early in the fall semester of 2010. We kind of had a thing in that first year, but the timing was not quite right yet. We spent the next few years being the best of friends, dating other people, and doing a lot of lesson-learning and growing up.

First Date

October 14th, 2013

We can't seem to agree on the exact details, but somehow in the fall of 2013 we found ourselves on a date together, going to dinner at a little Italian place in Oneonta. After dinner we walked around Main Street, where we saw a poster for SUNY Oneonta's live production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was starting in half an hour. Spur-of-the-moment, we decided to go see it. We had a fantastic time, singing and dancing along to the show. By the end of the night, we had agreed to be Boyfriend and Girlfriend. The date was October 14th, 2013.

Proposal

December 24th, 2017

For Christmas of 2017, We were staying at the home of Abby's Uncle Tom and Aunt Lynda in Mercer, Pennsylvania. The house is on a beautiful lake, and the back porch looks out over the water. On Christmas eve, after all the local cousins had returned home and most of the rest of the family had gone church, Abby, Dave, and Abby's brother Nate were getting ready to play a board game. Before we started, Dave asked Abby to meet him outside on the back porch. Abby thought this was a little strange since there was snow on the ground and Dave hates cold. When we got out there, Dave went down on one knee and said something along the lines of "Well, we've been together for a long time, and I know you've been waiting for this. Abby Parmelee, will you be my wife?" Cue shrieking and almost tackling him to the ground. Nate just said "It's about time you did that." When the rest of the family returned from church, we gathered everyone in the kitchen/dining/living area (all one long beautiful room) and Abby said "So, I got this new ring while you were all out..." Cue more shrieking, Abby's mom cried (no one was even a little surprised) and Aunt Lynda broke out the emergency stash of champagne. It was a pretty magical night!
