We met each other on a dating app. Michael sent a terrible pick up line, and Cassie decided she had to figure out what type of person would send such a line. It was a start of a conversation which was never-ending. That is, when Michael wasn't in the Academy, because we started talking the day before he went back for the second week. Michael started asking Cassie to go on a date with him, but she kept having excuses for why she could not. Finally, Michael surprised Cassie by showing up to a public work event just so they could meet in person for the first time. Afterwards, Cassie agreed to go on a first date, which turned to a second, until Cassie agreed to be his girlfriend. All of this happened while Michael was in the Academy. Michael gives Cassie a lot of credit for starting a relationship with someone she could only talk to a couple days a week and supporting him through a stressful time in his life. Covid started soon after, but we continued to grow in our love and respect for one another with Christ as a center point in our lives. Eventually, Michael knew he wanted to propose. He took Cassie to a lake to kayak. Michael was trying to find the perfect spot to purpose, but Cassie kept accidentally foiling his plan. Finally he found the perfect spot. After distracting her, Michael pulled out the ring, and waited for her to turn around. She turned around and found Michael on one knee with a ring and froze. Michael patiently waited for her to realize this was actually happening. She joyfully hugged him and thankfully said yes.
