Can you believe she fell for me after that? Those were, in fact, the first words I ever spoke to Cassie directly. We met at a mutual friend's wedding and after chancing to sit at the same table during the reception I waited for a proper introduction for a solid three minutes and was beginning to run out of patience. Something had to be done. Action had to be taken. So I blurted that out and somehow we hit it off. We started talking and quickly realized that we had been going to the same church for several months without ever having a chance to meet. I invited Cassie to join my home group and under the promise of food, she was persuaded. That group fell apart two weeks later. Ironic. Despite the catastrophic failure of institutionalized meetings we continued to hang out every Thursday throughout the summer. Each late-night conversation and Barnes Butte misadventure further solidifying the concept in our minds: We sport the same brand of crazy. But not just the crazy. The same morals and values. The same dreams and life goals. We could easily, even when we first met, spend hours having deep, meaningful conversations. And of course some far less meaningful ones as well. I feel the need to point out at this time that I was completely clueless as to Cassie's affections. Of course I was interested in her, how could I not? But I was oblivious of her feelings toward me. I just thought she was a good friend. A REALLY good friend. Good thing we got that cleared up. Soon we reached the point of no return. We started building giant flaming weapons together. I know. That's when you know its serious.
