Founded by Houston Mitchell and Hamilton Mask in 1854, Corinth, Mississippi, was called the “Crossroads of the South” during the Civil War because of its strategic railroad importance–two rail lines intersected at city center, making the town one of the most heavily contested transportation hubs fought over by both Union and Confederate armies.

Hagy's Catfish Hotel Restaurant

On this spot in 1825, Henry Hagy and his wife Polly docked their flat boat, laid claim to several acres of bottom land, and began to build a farm and family. Later their son John built a rough log shack next to the river to store items that were to be shipped by steamboats. The shack was occupied by Union soldiers during the Battle of Shiloh.

Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center

For six months in 1862, Corinth, Mississippi, a critical railroad junction considered second only to Richmond in military importance, captured the full attention of a divided nation. As one of the National Park Service's newest visitor centers, the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center explains the key role of Corinth in the Civil War's western theater.

Tupelo Buffalo Park & Zoo

The Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo spans 210 acres and boasts more than 260 animals. Originally a cattle ranch, in 1997, Dan Franklin began adding buffalo and removing cattle. His herd of buffalo grew to more than 300 and was, at one time, the largest herd east of the Mississippi River.

Verandah-Curlee House

The Verandah House was built in 1857 for one of Corinth’s founders, Hamilton Mask. During the Civil War, the house was headquarters to several generals.
