We met on the first day of seventh grade in English class. I’m sure Mrs. Dobbins was lecturing us about something when I heard a quiet laugh come from behind me. I tunred around in my seat and locked eyes with the most gorgeous blue eyes I had ever seen. That was it for me... love at first sight. We started passing notes in class (sorry Mom) and became close friends very quickly. One day I worked up the courage to give him a “do you like me? check yes or no” note. He took two whole days to respond! He finally told me he liked me back and we started dating. It’s very easy falling for someone that you feel like you’ve known your whole life. But our love story wasn’t always perfect. We were young and didn’t know how to properly communicate, so every silly argument turned into a break up. We continued dating on and off throughout our middle school and high school years, but always remained best friends. We reconnected our senior year of high school just in time for prom and have been together ever since!
On our five-year anniversary we traveled to Asheville, NC for a weekend-getaway. We stayed in the cutest little treehouse and brought our dogs, Roxie and Max. Throughout the day we explored the land surrounding the treehouse and played with the dogs. I orignally had a picnic planned for us, but the ground was still too wet from a rainstorm from the day before. We decided to order some pizza and have an indoor picnic instead while we watched a movie. Sawyer planned on proposing during the sunset but I was so hungry that I made him come inside and eat with me--ruined the moment! After dinner, he suggested that we sit on the deck and watch the stars. We reminisced on our five years together and shared some funny memories. Sawyer asked me if I'd gotten him an anniversary present and I said no because we'd agreed not to exchange gifts. Then he said, "Well I got you something..." and he pulled out a little red box. I was so giddy and happy that I immediately started balling my eyes out and hugging him. It took about five minutes before he could even get down on one knee! I've never said the word "YES" so much in my life. It was the happiest moment of our lives and well worth the wait!
