The ceremony will be held in the Nuncio Garden at Penha Longa. (Guests who’ve arrived extra early might enjoy visiting the Golf Restaurant nearby.) Formerly a retreat for Portugal's royal family, the wedding venue Penha Longa sits within a 545-acre national park in the Sintra mountains, and holds a nineteenth century palace originally founded as a monastery in the fourteenth century as well as the resort and wedding venue. The resort offers a 10% discount for wedding guests (you'll need to call or email directly to use the discount), but we also recommend checking out the 100+ hotels and Airbnbs in the Sintra area for those looking to explore.
Travel Note
TO PENHA LONGA: Guests can join one of the 2 chartered busses on Sunday (below), grab an Uber (35-45 minute trip), or can take the train to Sintra from Rossio station in Lisbon downtown (around 40 minutes' ride, see below). BUSSES TO PENHA LONGA ON SUNDAY: Busses will leave from the public square Praça dos Restauradores in Lisbon downtown. Address: Praça dos Restauradores 15-12, 1250-096 Lisboa, Portugal Bus #1: Leaves 9:45AM and arrives at Penha Longa ~10:45AM. Bus #2: Leaves 1PM and arrives at Penha Longa ~2PM. FROM PENHA LONGA: The wedding party will be staying in Sintra on the 26th, but there will also be Ubers and taxis available late into the evening for those heading back into Lisbon city. Travel Note
Most travelers spend the majority of their time in Lisbon city, and make a day trip or spend a night in the Sintra mountains about fifteen miles outside the city. We will be hosting welcome cocktails on the evening of the 25th in Lisbon city, and the wedding ceremony on the 26th at the Penha Longa Resort in Sintra. Lisbon: Lisbon has many hotels and Airbnbs, but we particularly enjoyed Airbnbs in the Alfama and Bairro Alto districts (some more travel ideas in the Lisbon & Sintra Classics section). Flight
Address: Alameda das Comunidades Portuguesas, 1700-111 Lisboa, Portugal The airport is about a 15 minute drive from Lisbon downtown, and 30 minutes from the wedding venue. Flights available from major U.S. airlines, but also try TAP Air Portugal (or Google Flights) for more options.
