Our #1 recommendation for everyone would be to visit the Colorado National Monument. The East Entrance is 8 minutes from downtown GJ - an entrance fee is required (or a National Parks Pass if you have one!), but it is well worth it. Take the 23-mile scenic drive across the monument, stopping at various overlooks and viewpoints. There are also several hikes throughout; Devil's Kitchen Trail is one of our favorites! We recommend exiting on the West side of the park and driving towards the small town of Fruita - head to Hot Tomato for delicious pizza, or Base Camp Provisions for a cold one.
There are 30+ wineries in Palisade, and most are connected by the 'Fruit & Wine Byway'. We enjoy biking along this route (you can rent a bike or e-bike in downtown Palisade), alternatively you can drive or book a group or private wine tour. A few of our favorites include: Restoration Vineyards Colterris at the Overlook Blue Beryl Winery Be sure to stop at the Palisade Pie Shop between wineries :) For a delicious meal, head to Fidel's in downtown Palisade or Palisade Pizza and PourHouse!
We recommend using the 'AllTrails' app to explore the many trails around the Grand Junction area - here are a few of our favorites! - Monument Canyon Loop (4.5 mi.) - Mica Mines Trail (2.7 mi) - Palisade Rim Trail (3.3 mi.)
Recommendations around Main Street: Breakfast - Roots Gastrohub, Main Street Bagel (the line moves fast!), Cafe Sol Casual Drinks/Food - Tacoparty, Trail Life Brewing, Cruise Control Dinner - Bin 707 Foodbar, Moody's Other recommendations: Highlands Distillery - 10 minutes from downtown, this distillery and lavender farm has a fun atmosphere. Hang out, play games and enjoy the delicious cocktails on the expansive patio. Handlebar Tap House - casual burger spot with rooftop, near the Lunch Loops trail system and entrance to Colorado National Monument
There are several other options for activities and rentals in the area including side-by-side ATVs, mountain biking, river rafting and paddle boarding. Moab, Utah is only 1.5 hours from Grand Junction - take a day trip to explore Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is just 1.5 hours south of Grand Junction - another great option for a partial day trip, as you only need a few hours to experience the park. Stop for lunch at Tacos & Beer on Main in Montrose! Redlands Mesa Golf Course was ranked the #1 public golf course in Colorado in 2024. Tiara Rado Golf Course is another great option.
