How We Met

ACCORDING TO TYLER

Casey and I met at the most wonderful, unexpected time. During the off-season in 2017, Casey had been training my brother Travis for his position as a goalkeeper. My mom kept casually mentioning that she wanted me to meet Travis's trainer, but I immediately saw through her scheme! I denied her propositions, as stubborn as can be. She always wanted me to get out of the car and say hi, but I went so far as to completely turn around in the front seat and hide when he came up to the car window to say hi to my mom. (I know, so dramatic of me. ;) Eight months went by and I forgot about it all, up until I went to my sweet friend Makenna's 21st Birthday party in Ventura. Right as I was walking up the driveway, there was this handsome man introducing himself to me! I was extremely bashful + definitely blushed, but was embarrassed that my cheeks gave me away! At the end of the night when the party started to end, Casey came around and asked if he could come play a card game with us. Again I blushed + avoided eye-contact. (I mean, there's no way someone that handsome + wonderful would like me!) We started talking and having the best time laughing with each other. And before I knew it someone said, "Wait you guys know each other, right? Casey is your brother's trainer!" And there it was. Proof that moms are ALWAYS right!! Unbeknownst to me, she and her wonderful friend Shawn had been attempting to orchestrate a meeting for Casey + I for quite some time, but it happened completely organically + in the Lord's perfect timing. We spent the next day hanging out with my family + friends, and we've been inseparable ever since. I still can't believe I avoided meeting him at all costs, and now we get to spend the rest of our lives with each other!

How We Met

ACCORDING TO CASEY

I began training her brother, Travis, in the winter of 2017, eight months prior to when Tyler and I would officially meet for the first time. When I trained Travis, Tyler would sit in the car and never come say hello. God knew that we both were not ready for each other yet! Months later, Tyler and I met at a friend’s 21st Birthday Party. I had no idea who she was until my friend’s mom made the connection for us at the end of the night. The family insisted that I should sleep over that night. The next day the moms got together and planned a lunch for both of us to go to. Tyler will tell you that I couldn’t make eye contact, and that was 100% true. I was so unbelievable nervous that a pretty girl who was so highly spoken of was finally in front of me. Later that day, I told a friend that she should create group dates for Tyler and me. Moments later, the whole family was questioning me on if I liked her! About 3 months later, I had fallen in love so hard that I accidentally let it slip that I loved her. I have never stopped saying it since that day.

The Proposal

November 1, 2018

At my best friend's Halloween party on October 31st, I called Casey to see if he was still coming. He told me he was sick, needed to rest, & would be unreachable. He sounded so weird + short on the phone. I thought for SURE something was wrong. Later that night I told my mom, "I don't think Casey likes me anymore, & I don't think he wants to marry me. Anytime it's come up, he's gone silent!" .....Poor mom. The next morning I headed to the airport & flew to Oahu to help our dear friends, the Miller family, move into their new home on the island. When I landed, I was told that I needed to change into some clothes for a nice welcome dinner on the beach with the family. I didn't pack anything nice because I was there to help them move for ten days! I threw something together & my sweet friend Nicole and I headed to the beach. After we parked, we walked along the beach towards the restaurant. I chatted away & caught up with Nicole, until she stopped me to take my photo in front of the water. As she was taking my photo, I could've sworn I saw Casey! I thought I was losing it. But there he was, walking right up to us! I was COMPLETELY overjoyed + confused! He said that he was there to surprise me by flying out to help the Millers move. I kept pinching myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming! He suggested that we walk towards the water to take a photo for my mom. Before I knew it, he was on one knee asking me to marry him. I've never been filled with so much joy! Apparently I said yes, & then started the weirdest combination of laughing + crying that I've ever heard. SO, he was already in Hawaii while I was trying to call him on Halloween, & I wasn't there to help the Millers move at ALL. It was all a ploy! And one of the most incredible, thoughtful, and loving surprises I've ever been given. I can't believe I get to spend the rest of my life with such an incredible man, and I am extremely grateful for every person who made our engagement so special!
