We have been planning this wedding for years, throughout a global pandemic & constantly changing restrictions, all remotely while living throughout the Midwest. We have learned that there are many things out of our control. There is no way for us to predict what will come our way. But we will continue to adapt. Having all of our wedding events held at one large “outdoor” accomodating location will hopefully ease the possible road bumps. We will do our best to plan for hiccups, and address them in a timely manner. We suggest you check with the lodging of your choice, on their specific refund/cancellation policies before booking. We are simply hoping for the best, and moving forward with our current plans until forced to do otherwise.
On the eve of the 2008 Super Bowl, in Richmond Hill, Georgia…. Lyle was a Captain fresh off of his first deployment in late fall of 2007, stationed at Fort Stewart, having just bought a house there. Shauna had moved there the following January of 2008, working and living at the Richmond Hill Department of Natural Resources Fish Hatchery, as a Fisheries Technician. Shortly after, while living less than a mile apart, they met at a bar located halfway between their residences, called Molly McPherson’s. With friends inserting themselves, numbers were exhanged. Lyle reached out to Shauna first, needing to be rescued when his faulty new boat would not start up again, becoming stranded upriver. Shauna worked a state research boat on that river and knew it well. She saved him from the aligators before dark, towing him off into the sunset. The rescued boaters insisted she meet them out for drinks once putting her boat away for the second time that evening. Meeting at the several bars between their residences became a regular occurance.
Shortly after Lyle had moved to West Point, NY in 2015 to teach Civil Engineering as an Associate Professor, he asked Shauna to move in & marry him. They planned on having their wedding celebration years later, after many Army moves, once settled back in NY with his daughter Scarlett. The proposal itself was as unromantic as Lyle & Shauna are themselves… Lyle was expecting the ring he picked for Shauna by mail that day. Shauna being the one home to sign for it, he warned her it was important work material to be kept safe and unopened. Once home from work, Lyle appeared from the next room with a small box. Sitting down on the couch beside her, he quietly handed it to her. There was a moment of confusion for Shauna, as the large blue diamond was nontraditional, and unexpected. Once Lyle explained his unique choice, using his unique style, for his unique fiance… the two went out for their favorite sushi dinner to celebrate.
